Yeah, it most likely only happens on the 60GB release models. Oh and you are not the only one, Dare9498. 'TROS Radar' has had a program on tv about this issue. Around 350 people with the same problem replied to it.

YOu will know whe your ps3 shuts off by its selfPrevent this. It happened to me, and my PS3 is going to die somethime soon. Or maybe not. But it's very dangerous, when this happened to me my PS3 wouldn't turn on again, but after 3 days I was lucky the CD came out but now my PS3 has a burning smell. Feel the fan at the side regularly, if it's extremely hot, or just really hot, turn off your PS3 and take a break. If it's just warm and loud, you've most likely nothing to worry about.
Ok, in case you guys wanted to know, I just called Sony. He said that it's probably a bolt of dust that has burned inside, but it COULD be a component too. He told me it would be wise to back-up my files, and for this case if I'm trading it in I don't have any costs but I need to have a evidence where I have bought my PS3, but I already have it 2 years so I lost it. So I gotta go back to the store and then they make a handwritten letter that I have bought the PS3 and that way I will be free of costs. But maybe trading in isn't even needed.
