Perspective is everything.
A year ago the PS3 was rolling along. BluRay had defeated HDDVD. PS3 was selling as much in the US as the 360 and had won 3 or 4 months by mid year. Worldwide the PS3 had gained 1.5M to 2.0M units on the 360 and had closed the gap to about 6M units. And MGS4 had just dropped and was selling faster than hotcakes, had amazing reviews and everyone was drooling. The PS3 was unstoppable and the 360 was the doomz.
So, here we are 1 year later. There are some excellent exclusives that have come and gone. But where exactly is the comeback? From where I sit, and I'd say every single analyst and I'd reckon a lot of 3rd party developers, I'd say the comeback has fizzled/slowed. Even Sony themselves have said the last year has been very difficult for them.
Could you guys possibly grasp this thread is about games... Is it that hard? Sales sales sales. It's like you ppl rather have a console that sells more each month over one that gets better games. It doesn't need to sell more then the competition to be a better product, it just has to deliver it to the people that did buy it.Could you possibly grasp that neither the title nor the one line OP says anything about games or defines how the TC sees the PS3 as having made a comeback?
Thus, there would appear to be plenty of room to discuss what is meant by comeback.
Furthermore, the very definition of what is a better product depends upon what you are trying to accomplish in the marketplace. My PS3 is better built than my 360, no question about that. It also has more and arguably better features than my 360. But, it also costs more. That makes it a premium product....which would be great if it was meant to be sold to a limited market and if the software that is meant to go with itdelivered a premium experience. But that was never the intent. All the consoles are ultimately meant to appeal to the mass market. And of course, the problem with this situation is that I expected more unique gaming love. More developers producing more cool things for my PS3 and not just relying on Sony itself.
Instead, my premium product has not significantly distinguished itself from my other consoles. At the end of the day, I use my 360 much more frequently than my PS3, there is no material difference in game experience/quality between the two system, and a huge percentage of the libraries overlap. In sum, my 360 has been a far better value and I fail to see how this 'comeback' has materially improved my gaming; outside of a few games, most of which haven't particularly distinguished themselves from similar offerings (I am looking at you KZ2, and you R2, and yes you too Infamous). Not that Gears 2 or Fable 2 were any better. But I expected more from my PS3 and it t'ain't there.
This is a great post. I agree completely.[QUOTE="Wombatringo"]Calling people names and insulting their opinions does nothing to strengthen your argument. Perhaps you should accept that you have different views than some others and post in a less hostile manner. Oh, and SNES>N64, IMO.theblueboxsaying Saturn is better than the N64 isn't an opinion, he was being dramaticI think you're confused as to the definition of the word 'opinion', and I also think I've stayed too long in this thread. Good day to you.
Your sig lets me know I shouldn't care or take you seriously.siLVURcrossThis. Your sig is ridiculous, even for a fanboy.
[QUOTE="Wombatringo"]No offense to you, but judging by your post here, you haven't been around games long enough to have a valid opinion on whats good and whats not. Silent-HalI've been playing games for a while, I've just never been much of a Nintendo fan. Pretty arrogant of you to try and tell me whether what I'm saying is valid or not, as if your opinion somehow matters more than mine does. I call it as I see it, arrogant or not. You said you didn't grow up playing the great games. Back then, there was no Sony, it was Sega vs Nintendo. If you'd gamed back then, you'd know why thats widely regarded as one of the best generations of gaming. And why Nintendo is in turn widely regarded as the best 1st party. They started most of it. Your opinion carries the same value as mine, I'm merely stating that you're not basing yours off the same information as I am.
