I Have Xbox Live (Finally)!!!

Hey, just last night I got Xbox Live and I was lucky enough to get a free Xbox Live Gold 1 month trial.  So far I've played Need for Speed Most Wanted, Call of Duty 2, Burnout Revenge and Halo 2 (mostly).  I have had a few problems but so far today Halo 2 has been running almost perfectly and when I played Burnout Revenge last night I was really surprised by how smooth the game ran since I have Bellsouth DSL Lite (about 120K), but the loading was murder.  My Gametag is Hellrazr360 (the name I use in my profiles, on websites and AIM, that would be my username if I could change it), but it may take me awhile to get used to the interface of Live perfectly and I know I have a slow start, but I'm free to suggestions that may help me out (really all I do on Live is Quickmatches so I barely know how to work anything else, as sad as that may sound).  But so far I've enjoyed Live for-the-most-part and I look forward to playing much more, but I'm really shocked at how quiet everyone is online, even on Halo 2.

Leveling Up Glitch?

Hey, I've noticed that I haven't been leveling up the past two days and I have been posting, but for the past two days my level has stayed at level 20 1%, is this happening to anyone else or is it just my profile?

Final Fantasy Advent Children Review

I'll probably do a review on the website for the PSP movie, but here's my review in a format I'd prefer.  Now, before I actually start, do know that I've never played or even actually seen a Final Fantasy game (aside from comparisons of the PS1 and PS3 versions of FFVII), so my take is likely to be different from others.  Anyway, here's my review:

Movie: For those that don't know, Final Fantasy Advent Children takes place 2 years after the events in Final Fantasy VII, with Cloud (main character) living in solitude but also haunted by his past.  The movie does a surprisingly good job in explaining the back-story to the movie so that FF newbies like me can get up to speed rather than just think "huh?" for the whole movie.  There are some parts the movie seems to forget that it has attracted FF "virgins" with a few characters, but this is easily overlooked as they don't play too much of a role in the movie.  Advent Children's plot itself is somewhat complex with the movie jumping between many scenes when something is about to happen; which is an odd tendancy of the movie for the first half.  The second half is far more entertaining than the second half, as it's more about the action and CG really being put to use, and it's very rewarding.  While the drama and thematic elements are kind of awkward the rest of the movie is definitely excellent and the action kicks things up a knotch.  8/10

Video: Let's get one thing out of the way, Advent Children looks amazing.  How much time, effort and money was put into this movie I don't know but it sure as hell pays off.  In a way the CG actually makes the film better since it permitted Sony and Square Enix to do more complicated things that most movies permit, and sometimes the CG looks strikingly real, only difference is the obvious fact that it's all CG.  10/10

Audio-Advent Children has a great soundtrack that helps to fit the attitude of the movie, but there are a few problems.  First of all, some of the music is pretty Japanese TV show-like and gives an awkward feeling in a few areas, but that's about the worst.  The voice-overs are great and fit the characters very well, but sometimes it seems they're trying a little too hard.  9/10

I thought Advent Children was a great movie and all things considered, it's one of the better movies out there and the best videogame-to-movie adaptation if you count it as one.  If you've never played a FF game before you should still check this movie out just for the impressive CG and action, it's worth a rental to say the least.

Judas Priest-Angel of Retribution Review (Dual Disc)

I hate to admit it, but the heavy metal genre seems to be slowly fading away, with all the metal bands that focus entirely on screaming/shouting lead singers, rapid drummers and big-bang guitar riffs bands are getting pretty dull in my favorite genre.  Only so many metal bands today have proven themselves to be among the best, but if there's one band that should be remembered for bringing perhaps the best heavy metal CD out in awhile, it has to be Angel of Retribution by 70's to 90's British metal band Judas Priest (who have been my favorite band ever since I first heard Painkiller).  So if the heavy metal genre does go anywhere anytime soon I’ll well remember it going off with a bang with this CD/DVD.

Judas Rising-Excellent intro that details the history of the band, has everything from Halford still delivering a great vocal presentation, fast drumming and awesome guitar-playing. 10/10

Deal With The Devil-A more Painkiller-inspired song with a touch of heavy Motley Crew added in.  Not the kind of music I expected from these guys but they do it with style. 9/10

Revolution-One of the slower songs on the album that might appeal to those wanting a more toned-down metal song, but this isn't the best Priest has given. 6/10

Worth Fighting For-This song has a more jumpy-like attitude and almost pop beat to it, with Halford again excellently singing the lyrics, which are some of the best on the album, but the beat is a big turn-off. 7/10

Demonizer-The half-way mark of the album is given a bang with Demonizer, a song that's in a way a good throwback to the band's works in the 80's with references to demons.  Great guitar riffs throughout the song bring it to life. 8/10

Wheels of Fire-This will be one of the songs that will likely make it to your racing soundtrack list, with guitar riffs going on and off throughout the track and a light guitar solo used for good measure, but it won't impress as much as the other songs. 7/10

Angel-In a way, this is the only ballad on the entire album, but it's one of the best I've heard in awhile, if not ever.  Halford is the star of the track and it's hard to find another song that he's sung better. 9/10

Hellrider-This will likely be a favorite of many listeners of the album, with a slow but steady start bringing the song to an almost church-like beat with the guitars along with a long and awesome guitar solo, one of the best songs you'll hear. 9/10

Eulogy-In a way, this song is almost an intro/prologue to the last track, since it shares a slow beat and puts the spotlight on Halford and the lyrics, good stuff though. 9/10

Lochness-This remains my favorite song not only by Judas Priest but also in-general.  It's the second-longest song I've heard (Iowa by Slipknot holding the record of over 15 minutes) at over 12 minutes in length, but after hearing the entire song you'll barely notice the time going by.  It takes a good few minutes for the song to really begin but from there on it's the big surprise song on the album that likely take your breath away. 10/10

(Live Side)

On the live side you're treated to a few minutes of six of the band's biggest songs (Breaking the Law, Metal Gods, Touch of Evil, Diamonds and Rust, Electric Eye, and Living After Midnight) as well as the band talking about the reunion in-between the live performances.  Both the live performances and the band doing a little behind-the-scenes are worth watching and the live songs are some the best you'll ever hear, and these guys are easily in their 50's!

Final Verdict-9/10

Slipknot-9.0 Live Review

The 4th album (5th if you include the limited Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat album) from these nine head-banging masked men from Iowa is more like a Greatest Hits album, just live and there’s no DVD or video, which is a dumb move if you ask me.  Hardcore fans of the band aka Maggots will more than likely love this album but as much as I love these guys, it seems like the performances lacked the spunk they had a few years ago, and it seems like they were getting tired of touring so much since the songs didn't rock as much.

Disc 1

The Blister Exists-Probably the best performance next to Spit It Out, but the song has been heard live so many times that it's not as satisfying: 8/10

(Sic)-Joey and the two other drummers (percussion) shine in this performance, but that's most of what keeps this song going: 7/10

Disasterpiece-They didn't do too bad with this performance, and I didn't like this song on Iowa; the only song that Corey really stood out with on both the CDs: 8/10

Before I Forget-This live performance won these guys a Grammy, and although they did good the problem is it sounds like most of the other songs on the album thanks to Corey's worn-out voice: 8/10

Left Behind-Not much beyond rythem guitar beats prevent this song from being bad: 6/10

Liberate-I don't know why they decided to choose this song to play, but it's one of my favorites off their debut album and they did pretty good: 8/10

Vermilion-Corey can't even do well with a slower, near power ballad song in a good way, some unneccesary "screams" in attempts to make it sound like the album: 5/10

Pulse of the Maggots-They managed to rock well enough to let this song go to your iPod and let you listen to it a few times, one of the heavier performances: 8/10

Purity-Sounds just like Vermilion, only longer and it's harder to understand what Corey's saying, skip it: 4/10

Eyeless-Everytime I hear this song I find some reason to laugh, between the chorus and the "look me in my brand new eye" parts I always afford a chuckle, but Corey ruins the long motherf**ker part: 8/10

Drum Solo-You're treated to just Joey's talents, the metal drummer extraordinare, good but he could've gone more into overdrive: 7/10

Eeyore-Fast beat, almost rapish guitar strumming performance made me think "slow down, I can't make out a single word!", they shaved 50 seconds off the original version so it goes by fast, but I like it: 8/10

Disc 2

Three Nil-Like most of the performances, this one’s main focus seems to be the drumming and bass, not the best performance but it’s worth listening to: 6/10

The Nameless-They make this song sound pretty close to the album version, which does give it (as well as the CD) some extra legs.  But the problem with this song live and on the album is that it goes between fast metal riffs and soft vocalizing (which Corey does pretty good compared to the other songs) very suddenly, other than that it’s a great song and performance: 7/10

Skin Ticket-This song is more like Rob Zombie and Nine Inch Nails than it is Slipknot, and even though this is a song the band rarely plays it’s not that big a deal since it’s not much beyond light guitar beats and sampling: 4/10

Everything Ends-A fast and somewhat funny song with the chorus lyrics that will appeal to most listeners, Corey’s “story” on the next song is worth a chuckle: 8/10

The Heretic Anthem-My old favorite song by these guys (the first time I heard this song live which from a video a couple years ago I was in love with it), but this one isn’t as good, the drumming and percussion are better than the vocals and guitars, and that makes the song a disappointment: 6/10

Iowa-Don’t worry, this fifteen-minute “ballad” has been cut to just under seven minutes, but it’s still a slow song that fits a deserted area from a recent Halloween party at the beginning: 3/10

Duality-It seems that each time I hear this song live it sounds different, and that helps this performance rise above how good the other songs are: 7/10

Spit It Out-The best performance next to The Blister Exists, the whole band kicks it into overdrive to push this early single to what I consider the diamond in the rough for this album, small “intermission” before the “f**k me, I’m all out of enemies” part might make you chuckle, if only there were a video: 9/10

People=S**t-Like The Heretic Anthem, this song suffers its true attitude with watered-down guitar noises and being more drum and percussion-focused, the chorus part is just weak: 5/10

Get This-This performance is good and fast, but nowhere near as good and fast as Spit It Out and Eeyore, easy listening though: 8/10

Wait and Bleed-One of the best Slipknot songs is also one of the best performances on this album, the band mixes the soft and hard parts together nicely and do the song justice: 8/10

Surfacing-The “new International F**king Anthem” as Corey likes to call it, but the band just doesn’t play it good enough to match those words with this performance, but it’s always fun to sing along to the chorus: 7/10

Final Verdict-7/10

My Top Ten Game-to-Movie Choices

Since games are more frequently getting movies based off them I only thought that I could share some games I'd like to see get movies, assuming of course that Uwe Boll wouldn't direct any of them.  Now, some games I would've included aren't going to be here since I've found out they're being made already.  Anyways, here are the games I'd like to see get movies if they were done correctly:

10. Shadow of the Colossus

I've only played the game a bit at my cousin's house, but just the epic-sized battles make this game worthy of a movie.  Sure, a movie based on it wouldn't have much of a story but when we're watching these enormous god-like beings being brought down by a young warrior I think I could care less.

Director of choice-Peter Jackson

9. Condemned: Criminal Origins

I think that a game like Condemned could make a perfect horror/thriller, as the game wasn't that long and it really captured the theme of its genre.  And the fact that this game is like a mix of CSI and Saw I think would help draw a good amount of people in.  If they were to make a movie based off this game then I'd pray that it would be executed in a way that it captures the suspense of the game.

Director of choice-David Fincher

8. Half Life

Never did play the original Half Life, but I have played and beaten Half Life 2 on the Xbox and if its predecessor was anything like Half Life 2 then I personally think Half Life could make an excellent movie.  I know most fans of the game would rather the game not get a movie but if a movie based on it managed to be put into the hands of the write people then it could be the first Oscar-winning movie based on a game, you never know....

Director of choice-Ridley Scott

7. Red Dead Revolver

This is one of my favorite games, despite its rough parts I'd still love to see it get a movie.  I thought the main attraction with Red Dead Revolver was its story, which I found engaging and surprisingly interesting and deep.  There are also some funny and memorable moments from the game I'd love to see in a movie based on it and just made me say to myself "Bring on a Red Dead movie, please!"

Director of choice-Brian Singer

6. Killzone

Not the best game out there; far from perfect.  But what I liked about Killzone was that it had an interesting and half-original story to it.  Instead of following a typical future military humanity at war theme it gave me the sense that there was more to the game's story than it showed, and it definitely acted much like a Hollywood blockbuster in many areas, which is why I'd like to see a movie based on it.

Director of choice-James Cameron

5. Far Cry Instincts

Now, some of you that may be in the know of movies probably are aware that Uwe Boll is directing a Far Cry movie, but when looked up it just says Far Cry, not Far Cry Instincts, so that leaves some possibility for another Far Cry movie that potentially couldn't suck.  Anyways, Far Cry Instincts could make a great movie because the game had gunfights on beaches, tropical hills, mines, thick forests at night and at a volcano.  The story wasn't too hot, but it worked well enough for me.

Director of choice-Ridley Scott

4. Too Human

Even though the game hasn't been released I did read a bit about the game in EGM and it's planned to be a trilogy and has been worked on for ten years, and the game sounds pretty interesting.  The plot of the game has barely been revealed but I've heard part of it goes into details how if your too human then you'll need machinary to control your power or something, I don't know the specifics but that's what's attracting me towards the game, it almost sounds like an epic take on humans somewhat similar to the Matrix movies in a way that I've been looking at it.

Director of choice-Peter Jackson

3. Gears of War

Like Too Human, I'd like to see a movie based on this game even though it hasn't been released.  But just from the trailer the game seems to promise a decent story and the battles are definitely looking to be awesome and of epic proportions, and I'd love to see something like that brought to the big-screen from a game that has great potential like this.

Director of Choice-James Cameron

2. Perfect Dark Zero

Some will say the game sucked, others will say the game rocked.  Either way, I think that Perfect Dark Zero had the right attitude to get a movie thanks to some of the memorable scenes in the game such as the roof-tops battle, jungle battle, and the final battle with Xiang Lee.  True, there wouldn't be much story to tell, but at least there'd be some nice action scenes to keep it going, and I think those could potentially help a Perfect Dark Zero movie shine (look what action scenes helped for movies like Starship Troopers, even though the sequel sucked).

Director of choice-Steven Speilburg

1. Metal Gear Solid

Yes, I am aware that Kojima did make a Metal Gear "movie" using the MGS3 graphics engine, but I personally would like to see a live-action Metal Gear movie, and I think that starting with MGS3 for a live-action movie would be the best choice as it is the prequel and I've heard some call it the best in the MGS series (MGS3 is the only MGS I've played), and the first movie is usually the best (with exceptions like T2 and Aliens).  The story and excellent cutscenes in MGS3 already made it a game worthy of being called a "part movie", but I'd like to see the games go all the way with movies.  BTW, I think Huge Jackman (Wolverine in X-Men) is the only person worthy of being Snake.

Director of choice-Peter Jackson
