Because I know they can't. Don't get me wrong; I'm sure Microsoft will bend over to the consumers this gen to try to keep up with the PS4, but once they have a similar amount of marketshare with SONY, they'll be back to their old selves:

- No exclusives except mediocre Halo

- Weak specs

- DRM

- $100/year LIVE fee with only P2P connections

Wouldn't it be better if Microsoft left and a more consumer-friendly company took its place?

- They have much more than Halo, plus it's selling a lot better than most PS exclusives and we all know Metacritic is all cows care about.

- PS4 isn't exactly strong either.

-The Xbox Live on Xbox One subscription price will continue to cost $59.99 per year, same as on Xbox 360.

Clearly, you don't see the difference between SONY and Microsoft.

SONY has made horrible decisions in the past like the CELL and Bluray drives, but SONY's intention was to revolutionize gaming, not to screw the consumer over. The PS3 was a bad bet, but it wasn't made out of ill-will to the consumers unlike the Xbox ONE. That is what separates SONY and Microsoft.

Microsoft is a burden on the industry. Period. I'm glad that they're going to fail next gen.

Microsoft is cancerous to the industry.  If you're a true gamer, you would hope that Microsoft fails and leaves gaming.

It's a compromise and it's up to the customer to decide if it's worth the sacrifice. It is what it is. Stop trying to compare it to a true core gamer console.
