It would probably be better to get the core pack and then get a 1 GB memory stick because I think the entertainment pack costs like 220 bucks now, which I bought the entertainment pack for like $300 dollars before the price drop based on the fact that it came with a 1GB memory stick. But I'm sure that now you could get a way better deal for a great system.
I had a DS, by the way, and I must say that it blows in comparison to the PSP.Isold my DS for a PSP, by the way, and I don't regret it one bit.

Wow... I hope that actually even makes sense to you. I was pretty trashed when I wrote that last night. :P

im not sure if the value pack is still out but id suggest that one because its only 245 and it has the 200 dollar psp with like 60-75 worth of stuff, if you cant get your hands on that id suggest the entertainment pack. all in all, the core doesnt have anything but the psp and a manual, and you at least need a mem stick which is gonna run you at least 35 dollarsB1GB055
They stopped selling the value pack in stores a while back, but I saw a package at Best Buy that sold basically all the extras that come with the value pack (such as the headphones, soft case and memory stick) for like 35 bucks, so if you were to buy that with the core pack it would run you around 205 bucks plus tax.
He could always do that but the main problem with that is that the memory stick is only 32MB.
Only thing that sucks about the core pack is that it doesn't come with a memory stick. I just decided to buy the entertainment pack when I bought mine based solely on the fact that it came with a 1GB memory stick.
Anytime my wife, daughter & I travel I'm always the one driving, so I can't play my PSP on trips.
I still own one, though, and play it every chance I get at home. I love being able to play video games while I'm watching television as well, so I don't regret my purchase one bit. Not to mention the fact that my wife doesn't give me crap about hogging the t.v. in the living room when I want to play games and she wants to watch something else. lol.
Suffice it to say that just because you don't travel much doesn't mean you won't enjoy it just as much.
