@KenshinXSlayer: It was okay to start with but the game's gone completely off the rails over the past year or two. I keep wanting to go back to it but then I see what it's become and just do like you do and hit up OG PSO or PSP2.

To say how mad the game has become, there's a map where you ride flying motorcycles over Las Vegas to fight umbrella wielding panda bears, the Statue of Liberty and a sentient semi truck and trailer. That last one isn't like fighting Optimus Prime or something, the truck just floats in mid-air and flails at you spastically. It's just straight up pants-on-head.

This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard about any movie ever.

@xnshd: Early access should be a red flag for any player that further research is required.

The game is VERY early access, you still encounter placeholder assets, the storyline is incomplete and they're tuning encounter balance in the background daily. If a player isn't willing to deal with these sorts of things they shouldn't be paying for it, plain and simple.

@spartanx169x: Sure, but this remains in early access at this point and the developers have been very open in stating that one thing the game lacks is adequate explanation of its systems. It's on their list. As with all early access products it's buyer beware and your mileage may vary. If you're going to make that kind of investment into something that's going to be Free in the future I would expect the player have done at least some of the research beforehand.

I'm going to spoiler all of the below as their kinda greasy activities and business practices between essentially hiding that the game is early access on most digital storefronts and outright for physical copies and their continued avoidance of any actual problems with the pay structure. A lot of it is still pertinent but until they sort their priorities out I'd rather not defend or recommend the game.

The biggest issue with the variety of content and systems in Fortnite is they haven't got any sort of explanation for them in place yet, though they claim to be working on it.

Every system present is valuable and functional but without knowing HOW it's valuable or WHAT it does it does seem like it's meaningless.

The seemingly worthless extra loot IS all useful as you break it down for materials to upgrade the gear that you actually like, and as you progress into the deeper parts of the game having properly upgraded equipment becomes a must. As does creative building and proper use of various kinds of traps.

Most of the gameplay clips in the above video that didn't come from promotional materials showed someone who wasn't terribly shooter-savvy and who build like someone just throwing down traps and walls because they were there, much like they suggest Epic has done with the game content. Hit up the game's official forums or subreddit, learn about how things work then give it another shot, get into Plankerton and start fighting some challenging content and your opinion may start to change.

Or not, whatever.

It's just a shame how little effort these sites put into learning about anything anymore. They admit its an early access game but don't bother to find out the developers plans for the future and what is missing that makes it early access. They complain about the game being designed around free2play mechanics but mention the game is meant to be free2play. They make a lot of really unfitting oblique references to other games with vaguely similar content, i.e., Orcs Must Die, Minecraft and Diablo 3 but fail to mention that the only things really in common between them are no more similar than Doom and The Division, i.e., there are guns and you shoot them at bad guys.

It all shows a lack of due diligence that this site should be well known for by now.

Yeah, I'm real excited for the awesome single player to be turned into a shithouse online game, probably MOBA based, that, even if it is fun, will be shut down in a year or two and never be playable again.

Online only is one of the strongest cancers killing the games industry, why would anyone want to invest their time heavily in something that fundamentally changes at random *coughthedivisioncough*, enormously nerfs your equipment consistently *coughdestinycough* or just gets shut down and is gone *coughtoomanytocountcough*? You can't skip patches you don't like, you often can't play on vacation if your IP is in a different country and at some point the game will simply be gone and you'll never be able to play it again.

This needs to stop. The excessive focus on absolute corporate control and multiplayer no one asked for is getting hugely out of hand. The market is getting so dilute and homogeneous it's getting hard to care about any upcoming title.

@leviathanxx: That's how it was last week when I finally uninstalled it after several months of waiting for reasonable performance. This being on PS4 Pro no less.
