No way I would upgrade your motherboard right now - the one you have is just fine. If you do choose to upgrade, go AM2 or Core 2 Duo, not another socket 939.RayvinAzn

Yeah, the motherboard is good but it's chipset fan has become stupidly loud and it's producing a very subtle high pitched sound which I think is due to age and dust build up. Either way, the chipset is also located in a rather unfortunate spot (right in front of the GPU slot) so upgrading the chipset fan is almost certainly out of the question as the one that is currently on it is just thin enough to miss hitting the video card. If I tried to put a heatsink or heatsink/fan combo on there it would definitely obstruct videocard placement.

I've been thinking about upgrading to AM2, but like I said, only if the new CPU can fit into my current upgrade budget.

Mostly I'm interested in knowing which specific models/brands of 939 or AM2 motherboards are known for operating well and quietly.

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard, videocard, and RAM. Currently I have a 939 MSI K8N Neo4 motherboard (A64 3500+ CPU) 1GB of Value RAM and a 6800GT.

I'm looking to upgrade to 2GB of RAM and currently I've kind of got my sights set on some OCZ Platinum RAM, how's the reputation for that OCZ RAM? Are there any other brands I should be looking out for?

I'm almost definitely going to upgrade the videocard to a 7950GT, so which ones are known for performing well and operating quietly?

And for the motherboard I'm totally open to all suggestions as long as they are 939. However, I might upgrade to a dual core CPU to fit a better motherboard if it's within my budget.

I'm trying to stay around $700 for this upgrade.

Thanks

I've been looking and there aren't many third party replacements for chipset fans. Does anyone know why that is? Are chipset fans getting phased out or something? Are passive heatsinks actually capable of cooling as well as a fan?

I have the same board, and that has happened to me. I had to RMA it for other problems, so i dont have an answer. After the amount of trouble i have had with that board, i will never my MSI parts again.Minion_24

What other problems did you experience with the board? Did you try removing the fan and cleaning it?

I have an MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard and recently I've noticed a high pitched sound coming from the chipset fan on the motherboard (the one located below the GPU). I actually didn't realize that this little fan was making so much racket until I slowed it down with a pen cap. My question to you good folks is: what do you recommend as a solution to fix the noisy fan? Are there any chipset fans that are totally silent? Thanks

[QUOTE="Yuggs"]

[QUOTE="GG7"] I don't believe they plan to enhance the old games for the new controller. I could be wrong, but knowing Nintendo, they are just going to make them downloadable in EXACTLY THE SAME format and feature set they had on the original system. IhateMario

You are more than likely incorrect. Even though it's not much evidence, Nintendo did show a girl apparently making Mario jump with the Revolution controller by flicking her wrist in the controller's TGS presentation video.

It's doubtful that they won't adapt the old games for the new control scheme.

Adapting the games means that they have to made them again, I think that that part of the video was to explain the idea of the new controller, not to say that old games will have a new controller, but that's just my idea... maybe I'm wrong, who knows?

They wouldn't have to make the old games again just to adapt them to the controller. Maybe you are indeed wrong, it's more than likely.
