I'm definitely getting it. I just hope I enjoy it as much as the N64 Banjo games.

To answer your question, yes you will need an optical cable to get true 5.1 surround sound from your 360.

I haven't used it myself but I've heard skippydisc.com can remove scratches really well, so you might want to try that.

I'd recommend a Plantronics Halo 2 headset, you can usually find them cheap on Amazon. Thats what I use and I really like it.

Well since there is such a rush of games around the holidays you could skip out on a few of the ones you want and buy them during the following summer for a likely discounted price. It would save you money and spread your gaming out over the entire year.
