Yes that is the headset, the converter is not required but if you want to be able to mute your mic or adjust the headset volume then you'll need this. It is pretty cheap as well and I've never had a problem with either of these devices.
If you're looking for a good quality headset for cheap then I recommend the Plantronics Halo 2 headset. I bought that after I broke my original headset and it is great. You can find them real cheap on Amazon.
When I was just hooking up my 360 at my dorm room today, I turned it on and it showed the RROD. Two important things were different from a real Mesquite-bound RROD. First, the 360 didn't actually turn on, as it was emitting no sound from its motors. Second, the RROD displayed almost immediately after I powered it on; if it was a real RROD it would take about 5 seconds or so to show it. Works fine now with the power cord inserted all the way.NicAgent
You can also get a false RROD if your power flickers out like it might during a thunderstorm.

Well both the units Ireceivedwere made the 22 of last month so i'm thinking there brand new,
but they don't have HDMI ports?
And the box's both have my name on it and all that.
They are most likely not new if they don't have the HDMI ports. I recently got back a 360 that had a date of 6/26/08 but it has the Xenon board in it which is supposed to be discontinued. Apparently MS sometimes puts new dates on refurbished consoles.
You can get the 3 red lights if your power flickers out for a moment (often during a lightning storm). So if theres some reason that might of happened then that might be why you saw it. Otherwise it will likely come back.
