ZanarkandTidus Blog

I guess I should say goodbye while I still have the chance.

Yeah it's been a while since I last posted a blog,it's because I've had a lot of things happening in my personal life but I was planning to start blogging again once the problems in my personal life got fixed and even though they haven't,since I may never have the chance to say goodbye or speak my mind one final time I might as well do it now.I love games and talking about games but it seems many of Gamespot's staff are trying their best to destroy Gamespot by removing/stopping unions, emblems, resetting our levels and I've heard blogs might/will be removed?.Once and if the blogging feature is removed, this site will be dead to me because what's the point of only communicating by PMs? So I guess I will say goodbye while I still have the chance.

I'd like to mention many people spent 10+ years getting to level 60+ or even level 70+ People spent years trying to earn a top reviewer emblem or soapbox emblem and got one after years of trying. When people made the effort to write detailed and helpful and entertaining reviews hoping to earn a top reviewer emblem it made the site better because when people are deciding whether to buy a certain a game or not, these reviews will be helpful, unlike many of the troll, fanboy or vague reviews. When people wrote editorial blogs about interesting topics it made the site better and the soapbox emblem was an incentive to write editorial blogs.

It's annoying when I see people being cold and saying things such as ''people should stop crying about losing their emblems'' perhaps those people know they suck at writing game reviews or can't write an interesting blog so they know they could never get a top reviewer emblem or soapbox emblem and they're just being bitter. Even though most unions aren't active, some of them are still active and they're a way people can have a private forum with their friends and can socialize without having to worry about trolls and blogs have been a great way to make friends and have enjoyable conversations with people who we know but it feels like Gamespot are making it so if we wanna socialize we have to talk in front of everyone and can't have private conversations with a smaller group of people who we feel comfortable around(before nit picky people say nothing on the internet is private,I'm sure they can get the jist of what I'm saying).

I also want to mention I haven't complained about Gamespot's constant glitchiness and bugs,I adapted to the changes Gamespot made in regards to allowing trolling even though I didn't agree with it,I haven't complained about Gamespot not giving me a reviewer of the month emblem like they promised they would to people who were choosen as one of the reviewers of the month so I'm not complaining for the reason of not having anything better to do,it's just sad to see a site which was once so great and which helped me meet many great members will soon give me no reason to use it anymore and I've been a member of Gamespot since 2007. It's also sad to see many other long time members saying they're done with Gamespot after Gamespot announced these changes because it's Gamespot's community which made it a great place to be,not it's reviews nor it's game info(which it often gets late).

---------------------

Anyways,as for my personal life,I don't want to say what the problems are,but they're related to my love life.Otherwise I'm saving up money for a house in Bangkok,I have enough money now for an apartment near the beach (Pattaya)in Thailand or for a house in smaller cities such as Chaing Mai or in nice rural towns but I wanna live in Bangkok which means I need to spend more time in Australia earning money which I don't like having to do but I have to.

Anyways,I guess this is it,after 6 years, this could be my last blog,I might start blogging again later if the certain problem in my personal life gets better and if I'm still able to blog around that time,I do want to do my game of the year awards because I've done it every year since 2009 and I think it's kinda fun to do.I will still write game reviews because I want people to know about many of the great Japanese games that not many people know or or have played and to know about great classic/lesser known games.

It's kinda strange because for years in many of my blogs I said I'd be happy once I had Thai citizenship because I could buy a house quickly there and I can buy multiple houses there quickly and have a secure future financially which means I can buy all the games, game consoles, gaming laptops, manga, action figures, books etc. that I want and I do have good friends in real life and online but I'm still not happy, and it's because money can't buy happiness, without love I am not happy and like I've told many people I'd rather be poor but with a woman who really loves me and who would do anything to make me happy rather than be rich/financially strong but not having a special person to share it all with. Anyways,I'm outta here for now, maybe for good.Goodbye/Sawadee Kup.

Anyone who wants to stay in touch with me,they can add me to facebook(PM me for the link)or they can add me to PSN TidusandYuna1983 or can add me to MSN(thelastangel1997@hotmail.com).

My score of 10 list

A score of 10 is the highest score a game can receive on Gamespot. It's supposed to be reserved for the best of the best.In the past,Gamespot's scoring system indicated a score of 10 meant a game was 'perfect' but no game can be perfect so a score of 10 now means 'prime' or 'the greatest'.Personally,I'll give a game a score of 10 if:-

-It captivates me emotionally or spiritually to the extent it makes me think about things I wouldn't normally think about in daily life. Thus meaning it's possible for me to give visual novels a score of 10 if they have extremely captivating stories because even though most visual novels don't have real gameplay they can still be extremely captivating and offer numerous story possibilities(lots of replay value).

-All round brilliance in terms of gameplay, graphics, sound and in some cases story and also if I don't want to change anything about the game(with the exception of game length if the game is not sold as a full-priced game).

I score games according to how good they were for their time. This is how I score games,I'm not saying my way is right or your way is wrong, this is the way I like to score games.

I also want to add I have been a gamer since the 1980's.The first gaming console I played was an Atari 2600 back in 1988.The first time I played games on a computer was using a Microbee computer which was also in 1988 and the first time I played an arcade machine was either in the late 1980's or early 1990's(the earliest memory of playing an arcade game was playing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game).Anyways,I've played thousands of games and out of the thousands of games I've played there's a small number of them which I think a worthy of a score of 10.Here is the list and I'll begin my list with my favorite game of all time but after that my list will go in alphabetical order.

Final Fantasy X

final-fantay-x-box-art.jpg

-Incredibly captivating story.I like love stories and I love the love story in FFX because Tidus is not a tough guy,he is imperfect,he's even selfish but he has a quality in which he can make Yuna laugh and cheer her up even when Yuna knows she is likely going to die and Tidus's selfishness isn't completely bad,he wanted Yuna to run away with him not just for himself but to save her because her friends who's job it was to protect her were expecting her to sacrifice herself to save their world and Tidus wasn't going to just let her do that without trying to stop her because he loves her.

-As far as turn-based battle system goes and for a 2001 RPG,it's battle system is flawless, you can sub party members in and out of battle for an extra tactical element. The bosses can be a bit easy but you can avoid that by not using there sphere grid much.

-Graphically,for it's time it looked better than any console RPG for it's time, the characters showed facial expressions and the CGI's and environments...what can I say? It's like they took the most beautiful parts of Thailand and Japan and used them for spectacular CGI's.

-Music,the music for the game is so beautiful people play it on piano themselves and Suteki Da Ne is so beautiful it doesn't even need to be translated.

--------------------

Clannad

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSvBoyGTYgA4leOHJLhAgu

-Captivating and emotional story, has a heartfelt love story but you don't have to choose the path of that love story you can choose other paths that can lead to romance with other characters and it's possible to end up with no romantic partner and get a bad ending. The story progresses from highschool until adult life. The story can be funny at times too.

-Beautiful artistic visuals

-Very beautiful music

-Lots of replay value if you want to see all story possibilities and you'll need to if you want to unlock the After Years which is when the characters are adults and has some of the most emotional story moments.

-----------------------

Disney's Aladdin

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSghnvL3K4LI3-Ubo6IzW6

-Flawless gameplay for it's time.Smooth contols, has melee combat and allows use of projectile weapons, clever combat mechanics(can deflect projectiles back at enemies),has platforming, encourages you to explore environments for gems to buy lives and credits with and to find token which can be used to win lives or goodies and has great level designs(some of the levels are very exciting)whilst being reminicent of the movie.

-Graphically it's artstyle and the environments suit the movie well and it's easily one of the best-looking SEGA MEGA DRIVE/GENESIS games. The game has great, flowing animation during gameplay too.

-The story presentation is great and heartfelt(for platformer standard) and has romance.

-The music is enjoyable and heartfelt and has the great music from the movie.

------------------------------------------------------

Final Fantasy VII

197341_54375_front.jpg

-Story is incredibly creative. You join a bunch of environmentalist rebels who go around blowing up factories and they're rebelling against a company named SHINRA whom are polluting the world and draining the world of it's life energy for profit and whom also oppress the people in the world, but after the group make it to the SHINRA building many of the employees have been slaughtered and a psychopath named Sephiroth comes into the story and so do aliens, ancient races, the story has a love triangle and the story is so addictive I didn't want to stop playing the game until I beat it.

-Although the characters look blocky and stout it gives them their charm(such as Cloud's spikey hair)and it's CGI's are exciting and keep you on the edge of your seat and it's cutscenes and the way they use delicate music show delicate story scenes very well.

-Battle system gives a lot of customization for JRPG standards, every character can be a summoner or mage but the characters do have unique advantages(Aerith has a limit break that heals every party member),Cid and Red XIII have powerful limit breaks,Barret has ranged attacks etc. and I like how the ATB system makes you think quickly during a character's

-It's world is so diverse and huge, from the dark, polluted futuristic city of Midgar which is a city with multiple levels and slums so beautiful tropical locations and charming rural towns and a theme park with fun mini games.

----------------------

Flower

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRtqRbCeU31dd18XqwpBGt

-It's story is emotional because you need to guide a flower metal through dangerous areas and restore civilizations of mankind and the story does a good job of using mystery beautiful mankind has disappeared and the cities are in ruins. The fact you're playing as a delicate little flower pettle on a journey and all alone makes it even more emotional.

-The music is beautiful and gives a sense of calm and peacefulness

-The environments are beautiful, whether it's the grassy fields or when you see the beautiful use of colors and seeing the city ruins with no people is quite emotional

-Using the PS3 axis and guiding the flower through gusts of wind and high in the air is relaxing and wonderful because you get a big view of open and beautiful landscapes and sometimes there's times when the petal will move quite fast.

---------------------

Harvest Moon It's A Wonderful Life

582288_46598_front.jpg

-The game is so addictive I could play it all day

-You can choose a character to marry, you can grow/produce and sell food and run businesses and there is a risk vs reward system.

-You can get married

-The people in the town are charming

-You character ages,so do the people in the town and after your character gets married you will have children

-The natural surroundings are quite nice

-Has seasonal weather and rain

----------------

Heavy Rain

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTamEBbN8IX_8peKzGwZNZ

-It's story has a serial killer, you don't know who the serial killer is and it could be anyone including the boy's father. The story presentation makes you care about the characters. The game lets you experience the story from the perspective from numerous likable characters.Has romance possibilities too and shows the darker side of humanity and shows the desperate acts people will go to in order to save someone they love or even for their career or to save their own life or to do their job.The characters in the game feel like real people too.

-Visually it's dreary rainy atmosphere and film noir environments make the game's world even more enticing.

-Gameplay involves exciting QTE events, doing things within a time limit, making tough choices and many things you do effect the story greatly.

-It's music is quite something and is used outside of the game.

--------------

Jade Empire

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQfUm5QMnqKoWcgWu3nQa-

-Main story has a nice use of Chinese mythology and game has interesting side stories, you can make decisions that effect the story and you can make lots of dialouge choices that can lead to some funny reactions(you can be a good guy or a complete jerk),I like Dawn Star(she is hot),you can create romance, the characters are interesting beause of their past or occupation or personality.

-I love the Asian influence of the world(the way it looks).

-The gameplay has an interesting combination of martial arts and RPG elements for combat and you can transform into demons.I like how the moral choices affect gameplay as well as story, you can win make a battle easier to win by poisoning the enemy but you will make yourself less likable to certain party members(including potential romance partners).

----------------

Lost Odyssey

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSUDWBalYP5hKItAKkwu3X

-It's main story is heartfelt because Kaim has lost his memories and needs to discover who he is and finds out he has a wife and daughter but there is a lot more to it than this. The side stories are very emotional too because you'll witness or read about very painful memories that come back to Kaim quickly and allows you to empathize with him strongly.

-It tries to be good old turn-based goodness with some clever ideas such as how immortal characters can resurrect themselves during battles which can turn the tide of a battle, the ring system isn't original but adds a bit more excitement to battles. The game is challenging not due to overpowered enemies but the dungeons can be very tough to find your way through and random enemies make it tougher because they can wear down your HP/MP and items.

-Graphically it's beautiful on a technical and artistic level and looked realistic for it's time.

-The music for the game has beautiful delicate piano music for emotional scenes and entertaining music for boss fights.

------------------------------

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTIGuviQJX1ru-vsrTPTHM

-It's story makes you think about how you look at the world and has some powerful emotionally shocking moments(I don't want to spoil them for you).It has a love story and lots of interesting characters and a very deep story.

-You can play it as a stealth game or as a shooter. It's stealth elements encourage you to be creative in how you sneak past enemies such as hanging onto railings or hiding in lockers or in a toilet stall or eliminating enemies without lethal firearms that make loud noise.

-Environments were detailed for their time and had some beautiful sunset

-Music makes the gameplay feel exciting

---------------

Shenmue 2

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTPedTwNMP09ujvETXQGrr

-Story is very spiritual and makes me think about how I look at the world and how to handle it's problems from a Taoist perspective

-Hong Kong has great sights to see and visit and traveling through rural China is amazing

-Freedom in how you want to play the game, you can do story related stuff or explore the world. The city has many stores and buildings filled with people to talk to.Apartment buildings have many rooms with people who answer the door if you knock and the people you encounter in the world often have interesting things to tell you.

-Story has a hot sexy female character and makes you empathize with characters who you may not like at first and makes you have to work with a complete jerk whom you need their help.

-----------------------------------

Shin Megami Persona 3 FES

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSsLMwNLKZXX-Qwz_J4rUO

-Captivating story with lots of likable characters who are like real people.Story has dark feel but lots of humor too.

-Grinding your way to the top of the tower feels like an epic test.Great turn-based system.

-Lots of activities you can do with lots of characters to build relationships with them and which improve your battle abilities.

-The addition of the After Story in FES makes it story that little bit more emotional to make it unforgettable

-Can create romance

------------------------------

Shin Megami Persona 4

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR5e-xASjUJGpT8Yi4KdiF

-Captivating story with lots of likable characters who are like real people.Story has dark supernatural stuff, murder mystery, suspense and the sexual humor is quite funny.

-TV world has interesting themes related to the characters

Lots of activities you can do with lots of characters to build relationships with them and which improve your battle abilities.

-Can create romance

----------------------------

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

20090623084246%21Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2.jp

-Perfect controls, great feel of speed from the speed of Sonic and the level designs allow lots of speed

-Levels have nice variety(colorful natural surroundings, high tech worlds,Arabian themes,in space etc.

-Epic final bosses(not due to their difficult but design).

-Great music

-----------------------

Super Mario Advance 2(AKA Super Mario World)

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSDtaalHUjLK5PRPt0f05

-Tight controls, platforming tests you in many ways such as with speed or timing. Can ride Yoshi, eat enemies and spit them out as fireballs. Can find wings to make Yoshi fly to hidden areas.Lots of secret areas.Cape and fireflower powerups are fun to use.

-Charming and colorful level designs

-Great music

Being able to save progress at checkpoints instead of only after castles/ghost houses took away a lot of frustration that was in the SNES version of Super Mario World.

--------------------------------

That completes my score of 10 list.

There is 8 other games which narrowly missed out on me scoring them a 10 so I'll give them honorable mentions and briefly mention what stopped me giving them a score of 10 next to their name in brackets.

Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core(graphics during gameplay could be a bit better and I don't like it's leveling up system).

Yakuza 4(control issues)

The Last Story(control issues)

Final Fantasy IX(some of it's quests and dungeon designs are boring/annoying)

Xenoblade Chronicles(arrow indicator is hard to follow sometimes and being set in a sandbox world sometimes it makes it hard to find where you need to go next and it's story presentation could have been a bit better)

Metal Gear Solid 3(story takes a while to build)

Valkyria Chronicles(slow loading times and I hate having to wait a while for the CPU to have it's turn and the CPU cheats.

Final Fantasy VI(fighting so many battles and waves of enemies becomes tiresome).

More funny trolling from online gaming

KillerKarrit and his 'grandad' again and someone raging at his grandad lol Someone telling KillerKarrit what many people have been thinking lol Generalminus annoys one of the countless people who say they know someone who works for SONY/Microsoft and will get you banned. Killerkarrit and someone else destroying someone's world on Minecraft that took the person 2 and a 1/2 months to build.

My thoughts of Nintendo for E3 2013 and E3 2013 overall.

I'll start with the most positives, which is Shin Megami Tensei 4 looks like it's going to have an epic story from it's story presentation. X is a project in development being made by Monolith and it will allow players to create huge open worlds to explore and it has similarities with Xenoblade Chronicles(which is one of my favorite games from the 7th gen). Super Mario 3D World looks like it's going to be fun but I was hoping it would offer lots of exploration like Super Mario 64 does but it looks like it's going to be more like Super Mario Bros 3D Land and it will allow 4 players to play at once. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks fun too. I also want to play Legend of Zelda Wind waker HD since Zelda Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game. ----------- So out of E3 2013 I'm very excited about Final Fantasy vs XIII AKA FFXV,SMT IV,Lightning Returns,X and the Metal Gear Solid games. These are the games that I'm super excited about. The other games I'm looking forward to but a bit more skeptical about are Super Mario 3D World,Kingdom Hearts 3(I haven't enjoyed the KH series since the first 2 KH games due to the lack of Final Fantasy characters),Knack(it's a Japanese game so it should be fun but graphically it looks like it could be a PS3 game that will use PS4 features)inFAMOUS Second Son(I loved the fist inFAMOUS game because of it's story and gameplay but I didn't play the inFAMOUS 2 because people said it's story is disappointing and I dont like Cole's new look),Yoshi's New Island(I enjoyed Yoshi's island for SNES/GBA but wasn't a big fan of it's gameplay mechanics). The only major disappointment I had for E3 2013 was no announcement of Final Fantasy Type 0 localization but I wasn't expecting it anyways.

First impressions of E3

I'm happy Final Fantasy vs XIII(now rebranded FFXV)is coming.Honestly,I was hoping FF vs XIII was going to be for PS3 and FFXV was going to be something totally new for PS4 but at least FF vs XIII is coming and it looks awesome and just think it's going to have a wide open, detailed world and it's gameplay looks awesome. The main other thing I wanted to see was FF Type 0 localization announced and perhaps announced for Vita but we didn't get that.

Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes,Kingdom Hearts III are great bonuses as well. Now I want to see a 3D Super Mario platformer game for Wii U,more Zelda games and more JRPGs.

More funny online game troll videos

KillerKarrit being Simon Balls and making a bad parent rage(really funny) GeneralMinus giving away position of his teammates and getting them killed(gets funny after 2 minutes) KillerKarrit teaching his 'grandad' how to play CoD online (hilarious) Spartan Jay griefing on Minecraft(destroys a girl's world and makes her mad)

Games first,technology second.

Lately all I've been playing is New Super Mario Bros for DS.The reason is because I wanna play something simple and fun and I don't feel like investing time into another JRPG or puzzley action/adventure game such as Zelda Twilight Princess but that will change after Lightning Returns is released.Super Mario World is much better than New Super Mario Bros DS but it's much more challenging and I want to play a game in which I won't die a lot :P

Lately I've seen many people saying the 8th gen will be the last gen for gaming consoles at least for a while and many people have said they will become a PC only gamer after the 7th gen is finished.Lets say hypothetically there is no more gaming consoles after the 8th gen it will be sad in a way because I have so many happy memories thanks to Nintendo,SEGA and SONY consoles and Nintendo have been releasing gaming consoles and Mario games ever since I was a kid back in the 80's.However PC gaming is nowhere near as popular in Japan as it is in the west or in other Asian countries and the most popular games in Japan are usually exclusive to a certain console. Many great Japanese games don't even get localized, maybe future Japanese consoles won't be released outside of Japan if console sales go down heavily.I mean there is certain Japanese consoles such as the Wonderswan that were only officially released in Japan.

I can kinda see why many westerners and people in other parts of Asia are joining the gaming PC bandwagon since laptops are very affordable now and since FPS,WRPG and western developed games are popular in the west and numerous Asian countries and people can play them on PC with better graphics and lets face it a PC and the internet is a becoming a necessity of life and gaming consoles were a fun toy in the past and the PS3 tried to imitate a PC but people can buy a better PC for around roughly the same price but they'll miss out on great PS3 exclusives games.

However,I'm still willing to buy a console if it has exclusives I want to play.I'll always prefer JRPGs over WRPGs and I'll never be a big fan of FPS games and I'll always want to play the new Mario games which means I will need to buy new consoles for that.Games such as the Final Fantasy games,The Last Story,Lost Odyssey,Yakuza 4,Mario,the good Sonic games,Shenmue series,Persona 3 and 4 and Clannad are the main reasons I've stayed a gamer,if Japanese game developers stopped making games tomorrow I'd quit gaming and I'm not BSing about that.Sure there's great western games but I've played few western games that are good enough to make me wanna buy a console to play them, the only 2 I can think off the top of my head are the MEGA DRIVE version of Aladdin and Heavy Rain.

Speaking of Final Fantasy,Square Enix really needs to localize Final Fantasy Type 0,FF Type 0 has already been developed and if it were released for Vita it would boost Vita sales a lot and if it ends up being well-liked by many people it can bring fans back to Square Enix who've given up on them already.Sure people want to see FF vs XIII but FF type 0 has already been developed! Look at the beautiful world for FF Type 0 and how awesome the battle system looks, are you telling me JRPG fans wouldn't want to play this game?

What I would like to see at E3 2013/early 7th gen review

I know some of what I want to see is wishful thinking but it's what I want to see.

-Final Fantasy for PS4.

-PS4 price and being able to see what it looks like.

-Final Fantasy vs XIII.

-Final Fantasy Type 0 localization news.

-More JRPGs.

-Bravely Defult localization news.

-Info about SMT4 for 3DS.

-Showing us more of Zelda A Link to the Past 2 as well as Zelda Wind Waker HD and new Zelda game for Wii U.

-A 3D Mario game for Wii U.

-Final Fantasy X HD

-Lightning Returns info and release date.

-Rain.

-Sonic Lost World.

-Project X Zone(I know the release date for the localized version has been announced and I can see footage of it on youtube but I wanna see it at E3 anyways).

Yakuza 4

The Last Story

Lost Odyssey

Heavy Rain

NIER

Xenoblade Chronicles

Fragile Dreams

Ar Tonelico Qoga

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Valkyria Chronicles

Assassin's Creed II

Kingdom of Paradise(AKA Key of Heaven)

Dynasty Warriors 7

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2(the core gameplay is the same although SMG2 has better level designs and Yoshi).

Star Ocean The Last Hope

Ni No Kuni

Tales of Graces

Final Fantasy XIII

Yakuza 3(Japanese version with hostess bars)

Honorable mentions:Metal Gear Solid 4,Tales of Vesperia,Eternal Sonata,Bioshock,Another Code R,Demon's Souls,Uncharted 1 and 2,inFAMOUS,Atelier Totori,Valkyria Chronicles 2,Catherine,Mirror's Edge,Mass Effect 1 and 2,Heavenly Sword,Enslaved Odyssey,Flower,Sleeping Dogs,Journey(Flower and Journey are actually in my top 20 7th gen games but since they're so short I've decided to put other games ahead of them).

Games from the 7th gen that I think are overrated and I wish people would stop trying to force down my throat.

GTA IV(I guess games with stiff combat, slippery driving and constant graphics issues are worthy of a score of 10 if they're sandbox and Rockstar made them)

Halo 3(Takes away most of the things that made the first Halo a great game)

Call of Duty Modern Warfare,Black Ops,WaW etc(Do I have to explain?)

Oblivion and Fallout 3(enjoyable experiences but quantity over quality)

Dragon Age Origins(an enjoyable game but it's combat is as boring as f*ck and it's story revolves around cliches).

LA Noir(dull story,unlikable characters,average gameplay)

Borderlands(I call it Boringlands for a reason,it's extremely repetitive and the enemies are boring to shoot and the game tries to be an RPG hybrid be being 20+ hours long(for a FPS game)but it has a weak story.

Most underrated/under appreciated games of 7th gen so far

NIER(one of the most heartfelt gaming experiences I've had)

Yakuza 4(got a good score but not many people talk about it and nearly not localized

Ar Tonelico Qoga(one of the most funny games I've ever played)

Kingdom of Paradise(not many people talk about it,has a great battle system and beautiful environments)
