Same old

Wow, the summer scene's getting old fast. Hitting a particularly boring stretch of the holidays, but for some reason finding little will to post any reviews. I managed to do up one for Katatonia's Viva Emptiness and one for Alexisonfire's self-titled. I checked out Alexisonfires new disc, it's actually really good.

If anyone reading this is bored and looking for a band to check out, I recommend Freak Kitchen. Don't let the name throw you off, this band is ridiculously talented and plays every style I can think of.

The summer *****

I never thought I'd ever say something like this, but I actually am looking forward to when school starts back up again in the fall. This summer has been the worst one in a long time, just seems so draining and boring at the same time.

Sorta some random reviews this week, but at least I beat the one review total from last week:

Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet? (this one got a fair bit of flack from fans, but it still sounds like straight up Bodom)

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance (Not a bad record from this band, but possibly a little stab at mainstream recognition...)

Porno for Pyros - Good God's Urge (Classic band and a classic album from the 90's.)

Bloodhound Gang - Hefty Fine (The latest from the Bloodhound gang, this one might be their finest recording.)

Meh, that's about all I got right now, prolly do up the same amount or less, as the summer has me feeling pretty lazy.

Nothing new

Well, in over a week's time I've got nothing done at all. It was Canada Day weekend, so I had more than my share of fun, but that also helped in nothing productive happening. Ah well, I finally wrote up a review for Matisyahu's album Youth, which is perfect music for this warmer summer weather and should please any fan of the reggae genre.

My musical tastes seem to be shifting again, this time back to the metal sound, so if I do decide to review anything at all, expect it to be from that genre.

Monday, June 26th

Albums:

Red Hot Chili Peppers -
Californication
Angels & Airwaves - We Don't Need To Whisper
Rush - Test for Echo
Liquid Tension Experiment - L.T.E. 2

Most of these were just random, prolly gonna stop with the blogging and reviews on here soon as I have too many of them now and it's getting redundant. Liquid Tension Experiment is decent if you like dream theater and instrumental stuff, but the Angels & Airwaves album was actually pleasantly surprising.

Reviews

Eminem - The Slim Shady LP
Alexisonfire - Watch Out!
Farmakon - A Warm Glimpse
Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies

I finally got around to some older albums I hadn't listened to in a while, namely Eminem and Alice in Chains, both killer discs that needed to be dusted off. Farmakon is an Opeth clone band pretty much, but with a little more of a jazzy twist; definitely worth checking out if you like that kind of stuff. I hadn't really listened to any Alexisonfire other than the odd single, so I decided to check out their latest and was pleasently surprised. They have a good mix of metal harmonies and melodies blended into their emo/screaming style.

I desperately need a cigarette, don't forget about your old favourites, blow the dust off them once and awhile.

Been a while

I guess the summer got a hold of me, haven't been into much of a reviewing mood lately, although I've been finding a lot of new killer bands. My own band is doing alright, but fingers crossed for a line-up change in the works.

I did check out a new album I hadn't heard before and decided to catch up on the Chili Peppers by covering one of my favourites.

Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere : This one suprised me a lot. The first time I heard it I didn't know what the hell was going on, but it grew on me quick and is definitely not like anything else on my playlist. You either love it or hate it tho I think, but it's worth checking out.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way : This is definitely in my top 3 Peppers favourites at the moment, and my review did it no justice. One of those discs that's hard to do a song by song analysis on .

Monday May 29

Hopefully I can get back into some kind of organized system of blogging again...not that it matters too much, but I'm starting to confuse myself I think (doesn't take much). The week's been a different one to say the least, but I guess thats the way she goes. Hard to say where my musical tastes are going at the moment, but I've been listening to far too much rap lately. Anyway, these are the albums I took a look at:

Eminem - Infinite : I dunno about this one...eminem's killer, but his first disc lacks everything that's made him popular.

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam : Finally got around to doing up a review for this one. It  was sorta hard to get into for some reason, but once I did it sounded like good ol' PJ.

Wolfmother - Wolfmother : I read so much about these guys on last.fm that I had to check them out; I was actually pleasantly surprised.  They definitely got a Zeppelin and Sabbath vibe goin on.

Sublime - Robbin' the Hood : I'm really not sure why it took me so long to wrap up reviews for Sublime's studio albums, but I finally got around to the last. If you're a fan of the band you know how weird yet cool this album is; if not, you prolly don't understand it, but it and Sublime are worth checking out...can't stress that enough.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid : Even though it's a short disc it's so friggin' good. There's enough mainstream favourites on there to keep a poser happy and the rest are gold.

I think that about does it for the album's I got to last week, more to come though...still have some Rush in the works and prolly some more Chili's to come. If you read this, check out some of the tunes

Uprisings and Blackouts

Well this has been an interesting weekend/beginning of the week. I live in an area of southern Ontario that's suffering from a landclaim disspute with the local natives, so things have been more than a mess for a while. The long weekend only brought out the violence, and after a bit of fighting the protestors knocked out the power supply to the town as well as several other towns thoughtout the county. Things are back on now and look to be getting better, but I guess only time will tell; regardless I can get back to reviewing and listening.

I managed to get a couple albums in before everything went to chaos though, and a lot of them are worth checking out:

Rush - Vapor Trails
Trivium - Ascendancy
Blind Melon - Soup (check this one out)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium (i'm still saying this is gonna be the best album of the year)
Joe Satriani - Super Colossal (if you like the instrumental stuff, Satch is pretty much the best you can find)

That's all I got for now really, I'm working on a couple others at the moment and checking out some more albums, I'll post something if i have it.

Monday....

That weekend was a bit too blury for a blog, so Im gonna do that up now. Several parties made for a long but rough weekend, and unfortunately a lot less music listening than I would have prefered. Been slacking on my reviews, but managed to get a few done throughout the week:

Blind Melon - Blind Melon...this is such a good band, it's a shame that they never got the success they deserved and that their singer died so young. R.I.P. Shannon Hoon.

Eric Johnson - Bloom... if you like any of the G3 guitarists (Satriani, Vai, Petrucci...) then you might like this one time G3er as well. Johnson's styles a little more laid back and less flashy, but that adds to the charm.

Tool - 10,000 Days... Ah Tool...what can I really say about this album. I did up a review for it, but that gave it no justice at all. If you know who Tool is then you've heard this, if you don't...you're broken.

The 'summer' has been off to a slow start regardless, and now it looks like my band is going to split up because no one can stick in anything long-term anymore...back to the drawing board I guess.

Finished!

Well, I'm finally done school for the year, and constantly thanking god for that one. Honestly I am going to miss some parts of that place...can't beat seeing a hundred hot girls every few seconds...sigh.

This blog is a little late from the usual sunday night one cause my days are already flowing into each other, and I really didn't get a whole lot done during that last week of class.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Ben Harper - Both Sides of the Gun
Rush - Counterparts
____________________________________

Alright, the low down is pretty simple: Sabbath kicks ass, and Master is no exception; check it out. Ben Harper is an aquired taste, but if you want some old school rock roots, this is a pretty amazing double disc. Rush is always mint as hell, and Counterparts should prove that nicely if you wanna hear some Rush.
