Lots of US churches have been burned in the past year to little media fanfare.
Do you mean these ones? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attacks_against_African-American_churches#2011%E2%80%93present
Or those ones? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attacks_on_Jewish_institutions_in_the_United_States
Even one attack on these institutions is one too many, but the 2808 racially motivated incidents against Asian-Americans that have been reported over the last year is the highest it has been in decades.
Seriously, why? Wouldn't it make more sense to make a new Green Lantern movie with the black Green Lantern, Jon Stewart in it? He's already a black character and most folks, (myself included) like him better than the white Green Lantern anyway. Heck, why can't it just be a new Superman who is black, not a racial swap of an existing character? It just seems unnecessary, not progressive, just forced.
I'm not sure that I exactly understand what "cultural appropriation" covers beyond the fact that it can only be "appropriation" when members of a dominant culture appropriate from minority cultures. What bothers me with that definition is that it doesn't leave much room for cultural appreciation and also sweeps everyone with a mixed ethnicity under the rug.
With regard to your second point, it's not the first time that there's a black Superman, so I'm not sure where the issue is. There's already been a few black Superman in DC Comics over the last few decades (going back to Sunshine Superman, Kalel/Calvin Ellis and Superman from Earth-D) so why not have one in a live action movie?
@Spartan_418: One major problem with this is that Sony makes their money by taking a cut of game sales. By selling on a platform they don't own, not only do they lose that money but they have to pay a 30% fee to Apple and Google on top of that.
@pcps4xb: I hadn't heard about the issue before but googling "CMOS battery" gets lots of hits about the PS4/PS5. https://www.gamesradar.com/ps5-will-still-play-some-discs-when-its-cmos-battery-dies/
And yet they're conveniently going to find another black woman to play the lead again because she's "incredibly talented" and the "right fit" for the role.
Yeah because everyone knows only white actors are talented and right fit for any roles, amirite? /s
While I am happy for Xbox owners Sony has lost all credibility with gamers.
Why would launching the game on more platforms impact Sony's credibility? The game is still on PlayStation, developed by the same team as previous iterations. This doesn't impact PlayStation owners in any way.
@Pyrosa: Which just goes to show that they don’t know what they’re doing. Look at what Marvel did. The first couple of live-action Daredevil (including the 90’s one) were terrible and yet the Netflix’s Daredevil show was great. Same can be said of Punisher, Hulk, Thor, and so on. Sure the first couple of FF movies were subpar flicks but that isn’t preventing Marvel from working on a new one which has great potential to hit the park.
@mogan: Were those movies part of the MCU? I don’t believe they were part of it, anymore than all those terrible FF, Captain America, Daredevil movies made between the 80’s and early 00’s.
