I'm not really trying to defend EA, don't misunderstand me. I think they've done their fair share of dumb things, but I was just baffled that you couldn't see the irony in your logic. I think gamers, in general, are the whiniest motherfuckers on the face of the planet. Why can't we all just shut the **** up and play what games appeal to us instead of constantly bitching about the companies and games we don't like?
Well for starters how about that Bobby Kotick? Shitty, lackluster licensed games (See: Marvel games). Bobby Kotick. Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk were both fantastic franchises until Activision's greed utterly destroyed them. The destruction of Infinity Ward, a very respectable studio at one point. $15 map packs, numerous times. And, of course, Bobby Kotick.
What makes EA so bad besides the fact that they are shoehorning multiplayer into games and adding "micro-transactions" that you really don't even need to purchase?
No offense, but what we've seen of Destiny thus far has looked pretty mediocre, especially considering how long it's been in development. It's funny how quick gamers jump on the hate bandwagon. Right now it's cool to hate EA, but you seem to be forgetting that Destiny is published by Activision, which is 10x worse than EA in my opinion. Talk about a publisher that likes to "milk" franchises to death. There are a total of 9 (!!!!) Call of Duty games on current generation consoles, whereas there are only 3 Mass Effect games.
I agree. What's wrong with having a devoted fanbase? Halo is a fantastic series, far from being mediocre in any sense. To say that it is is not only a disservice to the hard working teams that have worked on the series, but to the videogame industry as a whole. The music, gameplay mechanics, and graphics have always been top of the line, so much so that many other publishers have tried, and failed, to capitalize on the success of Halo. Sony tried with Killzone, marketing it as a "Halo killer", but we all saw how that turned out. Before Call of Duty became so popular on consoles (after no. 4), Halo was the undisputed king of console shooters. Now, there are tons of options for your shooting fix, but it is a testament to the quality of the series as a whole that it is still able to stand up next to the deluge of modern shooters out there.
I don't know why so many people bad mouth Pitchford. As far as industry personalities go, he really doesn't seem like such a bad guy. You are all so quick to hate on the guy when his company puts out games that a lot of people wanted to come out a LONG time ago and end up feeling dated. It's not his fault that the games suck, and as far as hyping them up...well, that's his job. I'm sure that all of you who actually have jobs, which probably isn't most of you, realize that sometimes you just have to do things you don't want to do. And Gearbox is the "worst studio ever"? Please...
I literally don't care about the "story" of the God of War franchise. It's never been that strong and, in truth, has often been laughable in how juvenile it is. But alas, I play the games because they are bloody fun, they look great, and the set pieces are pretty impressive. Otherwise, it's just another action game, and not one that I would ever call "the king of action games".
I felt like God of War III provided a suitable ending to the franchise, and cannot really imagine where they could go with it that would make any sort of sense. Anyway, I'm sure I'll end up getting God of War IV when it comes out, if for no other reason than to gawk at the mind melting graphics. Ascension, however, is a definite pass for me.
