i watched snippets of the presentions on 'Bravo's Playr'.
the overall feel was, MS presented the games in a very geeky/nerdy way. Nerd jokes etc. quote:
'oh a nuclear bomb launcher, just what every kid wants under the tree this holiday period'
not only was the comment from a nerd with 4 eyes, but it almost sounded politically correct as he could of just said 'christmas'.
On the other side, the PS3 press of the games* (not the business side to things) was very professional and dazzling showing lots of truely next gen exclusives. MS just seemed to be content with such noob games like Rock Band.
Yes SONY dominated E3 for the 10th year running.
- Deferred layered rendering - rendering in layers has always been big in CGI, being able to render bump, specular, shadows etc...as separate passes. Layers are assigned to be handled by multiple SPE's inside the CELL.
- Motion blur - full motion blur! the anti aliasing killer! the 1st console* game to feature this (PC Crysis)
These 2 things will define the new standard for all real time game engines, might sound boring but running the game engine mainly through the CELL frees up memory in the RSX (graphics shipset) to hardware render sprite particle effects, probably why the explosions look so lush, particle speed is a little slow compared to the target render from E306 but still!
I cannot wait for this showcase of how a modern true next gen engine should operate, pisses on the unreal engine from a height of a tree. x
COD4 is dead...
you can only take a game with 'sticky aim' so far. Once youve become pro at the game and can get a chance for prestige, you start to see how n00b like other player are and how they use n00b like aim to their advantage.
DREADFUL
