I thought FFXIII was great. Most of the characters really weren't that bad. Anyone who would say Hope was emo never got past chapter 7, Vanille was...actually kinda bad, but atleast she wasn't a bubbly ditzy girl for ****s and giggles, and there was actually a reason behind it. Lightning, while a ***** at times in the beginning, still had a pretty good personailty as well; she's tough and doesn't take **** from anyone. The story, well not told or written as good as it could have been, was still good in itself. And there were still some parts in the story that were pretty well done I would say. I liked how near the end of the game there was a part that reminded me of traveling through Zanarkand at the end of FFX.
The gameplay was awesome, too. The beginning was easy for the most part, but the challenge really picks up at the end of the game, like most other games. And I never understood the linearity complaint, seeing as how FFX was also very linear, and FFVI was very linear during the World of Balance, but opens up later in the World of Ruin (like FFXIII opens up later by chapter 11). I couldn't care less that there are no towns, not the most important aspect of any JRPG. And the paradigm shift system allowed for alot of strategy.
The presentation was great. Great graphics (obviosuly), as well as great music.
Now Square-Enix, well, I am not as crazy as them as I used to be. FFXIII was great, but FFX-2 was crap, and FFXII was a disappointment, IMO. I am intrigued to see how FFversusXIII turns out (Assuming it ever comes out >_>)
