How can you possibly compare a game that is 3 generations old to a modern title? It's just not accurate or worthwhile. DKC2 was a 2D game packed into a tiny cartridge that featured great graphics and gameplay for a 16-bit title but by no means can you compare it to a high definition game that spawns an entire dual-layer DVD packed with voice acting, massive 3D levels...

It's like saying the Ford Model T is a better car than a 1954 Corvette. Sure, they were both excellent cars, but different eras.

TekkenMaster606

Yeah that would be like comparing Citizen Kane, a movie from the 1940's, which was shot on grainy Black and White film, editing done by hand by splicing film together, to a modern day movie like Alone in the Dark, which utilized modern day movie technology, make up expertise, digital effects, digital editing, surround sound etc....

I mean Orson Welles did the best he could, but he was so restricted by the technology available that it would be unfair to compare his movies to modern day Uwe Boll movies.

And yeah I know I am comparing best to worst, but the point would still stand if you substitute Alone in the dark with a good modern picture.

How many times do people have to repeat - the games are re-reviewed by todays standards, they are modern day scores. They are AAA games by todays standards given the price and the console. Why is it sad that there are lots of classic games being made available that are still AAA quality?

They don't count in system wars tallies of games because they are not new games, they are emulations of another system. If they were brand new games, released at the same price, they would be AAA and they would count.

No, they're not. And don't go running off to the OoT or whatever review to prove me wrong. The standards are lowered, they're just not necessarily 20 years ago's (or the year the game was released) standards. Otherwise, SMB3 would have scored lower than NSMB, for example.

How do you think they are reviewing them then? The SMB3 review was released just recently. It is a review of the game as it seen on the Wii, including discussion of the overscan issue. It is listed in the Wii section as a Wii game. There never was an NES review score. But you are saying that it is not a modern day score?

Why are the standards lowered? Why should SMB3 score lower than NSMB? NSMB costs a lot more than SMB3.

....

If you don't want to pay, thats your perogative, but I suspect the ones that complain the most are the ones not even old enough to get jobs and thus can't afford.

....

I find looking at someones achievement list far more appealing than listening to someone raving on about how they killed 5 enemies with the one bullet and not actually believeing them - with achievements you can see it, it's there, hooray! you're good at the game.

...

BambooBanger

I think you are definitely mistaken about the first part. People complain mainly on principle, because ultimately you are not paying for anything - you already paid for the game, you already paid for the internet connection, and Xbox Live would exist whether they charged a fee or not.

In terms of achievements, I am still not convinced that finding flags hidden in a game is really an achievement. The real achievements are pulling off something that very few people can (like your 5 person, 1 bullet example), the kind that can't be quantified by the achievement system. The Halo3 video component seems better suited to this.

exactly, and that is where the thread ends. I'm tired of them using VC games as modern-day scores. PS3 would mop the floor of both the Wii and Xbox 360 library combined.

Bread_or_Decide

Its sad that the Wii's highest scoring games are mostly on the VC. That top list is riddled with them. It really shouldn't count.

VC games don't count towards the lists of AAA games etc in system wars as they are not new games, nor are they ports. However, SMB3 is a AAA quality game as reviewed by todays standards and is only available for the Wii and NES. Backwards compatible games are not re-reviewed so a AAA PS1 game is not neccesarily still a AAA quality game.

Lack of headset - not that I would use one, but it seems like a bad idea in general not to have this

Lack of storage - downloadable content is an extra revenue stream for nintendo, which would require pretty much zero work on their part. There are roughly 800,000 copies of Wii GuitarHero3 in the US. If they make just $1 off of each of those from doenloadable songs they would make a hassle free million $, and we would thank them for it!

This is the awesome third party support that shovelware gets.AgentA-Mi6

What, that didn't make any sense. Do you know what shovelware is? The crappy game is the shovelware not the console.

Turn your christmas tree lights off!

Best bet is to go into the calibrate sensitivity section and if there are interfering light sources you will see them here.

Other option is your sensor bar is not aligned with your TV correctly.

Quake 2

The fact that your poll lacks both the Quake and Unreal Tournament games is not a good sign.
