@Tiwill44: Restricted in the sense of; map rotation, game mode rotation, game modes are ranked specific, the basic mode is only casual play, I cant change weapons in game to suit a map or counter an enemy team, I can't change my weapons or clothing between games without leaving a lobby and going back to the hub, splatfest days restrict ranked play, clothing is based on 100% chance, I can't communicate with my voice or chat (even if they had a rocket league kinda quick chat it would be 100 times better), ect...
The nade spam can break the tower mode, with enemies just lobbing 6 nades at a time at the tower and getting insta-kills. Its really broken and needs to be balanced in some, whether its increased ink usage or a power reductions, something. Having everyone use it is not a solution, it makes it even worse than CoD in nade spam...

@Tiwill44: Splatoon is a very unique game and a breath of fresh air in a genre built in stale military shooters, but Nintendo could not have done a poorer job in executing this. My friend wanted to try the game out, so I got it back recently. I have been playing it again a little bit and it is still a mess. I feel so restricted within the game in every mode, Splatoon players have to be the most incompetent players in online shooters, grenade spam is way too common and op, long amounts of text before something actually happens, Splatfest is pointless and awful. It is such a frustrating game. I find it amazing that it got such a high reception, are we wii u gamers really that desperate to latch on to something? I find it kind of sad that reviewers cant get past the concept and review the game more in depth. Conceptually it is an amazing game, Technically it is one of the worst games of 2015 (other than broken games of course, you can at least play splatoon decently albeit frustrating)
