Wow, it's already that time again. Tv season 2011/2012 is almost over, and all our beloved friends prepare for their best finale moments. I thought I share a few of my impressions with you, about the good, the bad, the disappointing and surprising moments of TV (or something like that ;))...
(in no particular order)
Once Upon A Time

So this year was time to let the fairytale world come to live and Once Upon A Time took the Disneyworld road. To be honest, I'm not the Disneyworld kinda type and I've got the pictures to prove it ;)... Why did I turn in? I guess Jennifer Morrison did her part, I really liked her on House and the pilot turned out to be actually pretty good. The story: the Evil Queen uses a curse to transfer the fairytale characters into our world where they can't find happiness anymore. These characters don't remember where they came from or who they really are, they live their lives in Storybrooke, they can't leave nor do they age. However, the child of Snow White and Prince Charming could be their rescue and when this child Emma comes to Storybrooke 28 years after the curse was spelled, things are set in motion...
Fortunately, despite my fears, this show turned out not to be like a Disneyland visit, they do dark, not just pink and sparkles (though there was this horrible fairy outfit!). Once Upon A Time definitely knows how to tell intriguing stories, but they had their misses as well. I'm still shivering when I think about that debacle they named "Dreamy," one of the worst love stories I've seen and quite honestly I still don't know what the message was. I'm just not a fan of filler episodes, and in the middle of its run I thought Once Upon A Time was losing its way. However, I think they are back on track and especially the last episode "Stranger" has been great, but what wrong could Eion Bailey do? Exactly, more of that, please. And please let Emma lose some hair! One person shouldn't wear that much extensions!
Ringer

Oh well, that was messy... I should have known because I don't like trashy soaps, but Sarah Michelle Gellar was headlining the project. And there was just not enough imagination on my part to be able to realize what some ambitious writers would make of a show and its logline "twin sister takes over her sister's life." Seriously, that was just really bad writing, they killed it. Characters: incoherent! At least you could tell if someone was bad when he/she was looking sinister, the next episode there would be Good Andrew though. Twists and turns wherever you looked and funny enough, this show became so predictable in its unpredictability. And this show was so much not about a someone taking over her sister's life as it could have been. Because everyone was always immediately filling Bridget in when she just couldn't remember what she (well, Siobhan) had been like a few weeks prior to the switch. Exactly no one wondered about Siobhan's sudden new character. Not her husband, her stepdaughter, her best friend, her lover, etc... Yep, that was ridiculous at best. Well, fare well, Ringer, I don't think you will make it to season 2, there was just not the audience for this mess. And even if, I certainly won't waste any more time on this!
Alcatraz

Do you still remember this J.J. Abrams show that took the mystery out of the mystery show? Seriously, I'm pretty sure this was an experiment whether you could drag out the story of a pilot and put it into 13 episodes. To cut right to the chase: No, you can't. So this was really boring television. And no mystery! Let me remind you, this was supposed to be a mystery show! But no, there was just an inmate every week that came back and killed people. As violent as possible. Who knows why... At this point I don't even think the masterminds behind this show knew... Why did they came back? And how? Well, non of the investigators cared, so the viewers just kept screaming at the tv: come on, do something, be interesting, ask why your grandfather has come back from the dead and past or something like that and looks younger than you! Yes, I'm talking to you, Blondie! Ok, that was maybe just me, but you get the idea. And the finale was the worst possible... Read the reviews and you will see it. A massive waste of time.
The fate of this show is still kind of in the air, but I doubt it will come back to haunt us more. And even Fox is out of its mind and has nothing else to fill a Friday night slot or so, I certainly won't tune in!
How I met your Mother

So far, I talked about freshman shows, but there are also the ones we follow year after year. I really love watching comedies, most of the time I want to switch my brain off at the end of day and just laugh a little. How I met your Mother was definitely one of the funniest shows I've seen. In season 1 to 3 or so. Oh well, what happened there?
Maybe there just came of few comedies along that took over their spot in my hitlist. You have to reevaluate these things when new competition arrives. And this year spit out some really great comedies (we will get there). However, after following this season I realized this show is failing for me because of its selfmade mother problem. We are at a point, Ted should already know the mother of his children (they know a pregnancy does usually lasts about 40 weeks?). And yet, they've postponed the introduction, planted red herrings, fouled us more than once or ten times... It's the playing with me as viewer that makes me angry. Why make promises when you don't keep them? There are two episodes left and they promised to show us Barney's bride and hinted that Ted will meet his wife at that wedding. But will we? I mean will we see her? The problem is in the detail and no one said: Ted will meet his future wife and you will actually see her in this episode. Yep, that's the way this show works. And we will keep going and going and in the meantime the characters will get more and more irritable and I will keep losing my faith and patience. Just end here, will you? (Yes, I know this show was already renewed last year for yet another year, but I'm at a point I will just give up).
So, this was part one, more to follow (I'm hungry
). I'd love to hear your point of views :)!
