When i built my pc, my phenom 965 wouldnt go in. So i pushed and pushed and bent a pin. I examined the motherboard and noticed a piece of dirt in one of the holes. Removed the dirt. Bent the pin back into place  and everything has been going fine for almost a year now.

Oh and forgot to mention attaching the heatsink felt like i was gonna snap the motherboard.

The real question is can you afford not to upgrade to w7? Almost all games now have started to phase out xp as being compatible. Not to mention that xp does not support the latest directx. It'll be a hard time getting drivers for the components for xp. Also if your xp isnt 64bit, its better to update for the memory benefits.

Actually you could give me the most powerful current cpu on the planet, and I could max it out in 10 minutes with making music... it really is that easy... (just add VST after VST, and it will happen) lol Turn up the quality on all those VSTs during Real time playback within the DAW, and that CPU would be crushed lol.

Half of the reason for the upgrade from 8800gt sli was heat issues... and noise like I said lol I do music. 2 cards are louder than one. (not to mention not all games support sli, including new ones, and ones yet to come out)

I have seen noticable performance increases over the SLI setup.. ( I also gave one of my cards to my friend, and the other one I am giving to my sister when whe builds her new rig in a couple of months, save her money on initial cost if I already provide her with a decent GPU)

Not to mention its less power being wasted, and less energy wasted, and slightly less on the electric bill.. actually a good bit of thought went into the upgrade, as it was not just an impulse buy.

Lach0121

Yeah but how many VST do you need? Isnt there a limited number of ways you can adjust a sound using plugins before the sound becomes a mess? But honestly I wouldnt know, i dont have a clue about music. The 8800s were notorious for running extremely hot and noisy.

Actually no, there is not limit on VSTs, You could use 100s, matter of fact I can promise you now, you would probably trip if you knew the amount of VSTs used in making the average length song you hear today....

And for the more complex musics like Metal (if done in the completely digital realm which is taking over and evolving much more rapidly than analog) and such.., It could take even more. Same with Some electronic style music.

As far as limited number of ways to adjust sound before it becomes a jumbled mess... Theoretically no, if you understand how to use all of the plugins.. Hell you could throw on 3 VSTs (not know how to use them) and it sound like a jumbled mess lol.

very wise words indeed. Controlling all of those VSTs, the amount of work must be unimaginable.

On the subject of MOH, there is nothing wrong with the game its just that its all been done before. It is similar to bc2 just the same as blops is similar to mw2.

Second build is much better, dare I say 3 times as fast? Although the second one is lacking components like the harddrive and discdrive ands OS.

Yeah AVP in DX11 to get the AA and DX11 lights and shadows., I run a MAX except for TEsselation, and AO (they are off), everything else is MAx with 4xAA.

I game at 1680x1050 for now, but here in a month or two, I am giving my monitor to my gf, and I am getting a 24inch 1920x1080 monitor, so the extra GPU, power should help in going to a higher Res.

My rig is almost 3 years old (including updates), and would like to get about a year and a half more out of it (lol which I think will be fine, the recent gpu purchase is to just make sure it lasts that long, and I can move my gpu over into my new rig, (once they get out some CPU's and Ram worth upgrading to, I am holding out for a good REAL 8 core cpu, or 12 core.) I do music as well and a hefty cpu would help in that way more than gaming.

Lach0121

HSAO seems to make the biggest impact for me, knocks off 20 fps in BC2, although it does look nice. 1680 is a decent rez but the best is 1080p.More than that will choke even the most powerful of cards. I also find that the more rez you have, the lower the AA can be as jaggies dont look as jaggy. 12 core hey? That is a hell of alot of cores! Heaven knows how you gonna use em even if you do music. (unless you play crysis, decode hd and your music at the same time).

Have you done anybench marks? I am intreged to know the performance gains over 8800 sli. As your old cards should still be good for most games.

Clear sky is a real killer, what rez are you running it at? and avp is dx11 so if that runs fine, then everything else should as well.

Your rig shouldnt have any siginificant bottleneck for the time being. It really depends on how the game is coded aswell. I do know that GTA4 and bc2 are heavily cpu dependent where as cod is more on the gpu.

Nope played it literally like 2-3 days ago and it actually plays worse... A GTX 570 should run the game (constant 60 fps) 0 drops out of it, at max, 8xAA, no problem... So yet mine drops to the 10s sometimes, and it has shadows turned off, and AA turned down to 4x.... Yes it is a broken game.

Lach0121

A gtx 570 should run it at 100fps at the least! My cards, which is half the power does 60fps, 1080p.

I know right, I get pretty good performance on other games, of course my rig probably is holding it back a little, phenom II 945, and 4 gigs of DDR2 800mhz... But not enough to give me that kind of crap performance on ANY COD game period.

Thats after trying both sets of drivers that are out for the gtx-570, it seems the original work better in most of my games, than the second set, hopefully the third set of drivers will be great... Unfortunately the first 2 drivers for the gtx-570 are not really that good, Nvidia needs work harder on its drivers lately, they have been slouching, and AMD/ATI has been improving on theirs.

Although your cpu and ram are significantly slower compared to your gpu, they are pefectly fast enough. Have you tried other games on the quake engine? If i were you I would check what the gpu usage is like in game. I bet its gonna be something like 40%.Yeah as you said Most likely a driver issue if it only happens on COD.

I have Black ops, and I don't have BFBC2... I will say that Black Ops performs horrible on my rig, some points practically unplayable. (my rig isn't the problem)

Lach0121

I think they patched it recently and should run smoother for you at least it did for me. It isnt a magic fix, but is a lot less stuttery with online play. BO is terribly optimized anyway my rig performed relatively the same between a 8800gt and 570gtx.

Supreme Commander 2 @ 28....What on earth. How can Red Alert be below that game? Diablo, Dark Reign, Max Payne 2, Elite Force, Doom 3, Far Cry, Trackmania, Guild Wars, Battlefield 2, Commandos (2 or 1), The Witcher, DiRT They are just some examples that should be on that list. Ugh bad list and bad ratings. Deus Ex number 1 is good though.nutcrackr

Doom 3 isnt on the list? WOW. That was the crysis of 2004! All new GPUs were benchmarked with doom 3.
