The Mount system has become an essential feature for most MMOs in today's market. Conquer Online, a renowned Chinese style MMO, has also introduced its own mount system in the latest expansion - Raiding Clans. Players can breed various types of mounts and ride them headlong through the vast continents of mythological ancient China. So what can these trusty mounts do for you in this virtual MMO universe? Below I would like to list a few instances.

1. Allow you to visit some rural places
Travelling in the vast world of an MMO, it is tiring to just depend on your bare feet. However, with a vigorous steed, you can cruise on the continent and access some truly splendid landscapes and uncharted dungeons that few people have seen before.

2. Help you escape from vicious enemies
Encountering various monsters is part of everyday life in an MMO. When you are trapped by a flock of frantic apes during an adventure, don't be scared. Just summon your trusty steed! They will help their master retreat safely from the dangerous region.

3. Create romantic scenarios for masters
When you are chasing a girl (or guy, for you ladies), a gorgeous mount could be equal to a brand new Ferrari in real life. Imagine you and you lover riding to the summit of a mountain together under the shiny moonlight. How romantic!

4. The symbol of your statue
In a fantasy MMO, mounts are not merely a transportation tool. On the contrary, mounts are the symbols of a players' status in game. From mounts, you can easily distinguish low-ranked newbies and experienced veterans.

5. Show off the power of your guild
Compared to a lone rider, a whole cavalry of warriors is much more menacing! Through a horse riding parade, a guild can demonstrate its dominative power to the whole player community!

What do you think about your mounts in game?

For Conquer Online's 6th anniversary, TQ Digital has prepared for the players a brand-new expansion, Raiding Clans. The highly anticipated Mount System will be released in the new expansion. Soon adventurers will be able to travel with their trusty steeds, as they ride headlong into battle!

These spirited steeds possess various appearances and attributes. A distinguished steed will not only glorify your profile, but more importantly, will help you with the rare attributes needed to dominate the world of Conquer Online.

The innovative Lineage System will allow players to breed their own trusty steeds. Players can utilize 2 horses to breed 1 new offspring, with the lineage of the 2 parents to be transferred to the new colt. While the attributes of the horse abide by the inherited rule, the appearance would change dramatically due to genetic mutations.

Zero Online, a free to play sci-fi mmorpg, will have its expansion, the Expanding Horizon on May 22, 2009.

A new galactic war will burst forth onto this expanding horizon. What awaits the Alliance pilots up ahead? Will there be new dangers or great opportunities? All will be answered in time!

What is new:

1. Unit Fusion
It is said that the Alliance has developed a new skill that can allow the primary unit to fuse with the ARMs and create a new, even more powerful unit, with speed and power far beyond your imagination. Whoever can wield this will be amazed by its unparalleled strength and power. According to the report, the incredible skill will be put into place in the near future.

2. Hyper-Energy Research
The fierce battles never cease, and the threat of Othello always exists. In order to improve the pilots' battle abilities, the alliance has invested a lot of funding and resources in developing new technologies and skills to turn the tide of war in our favor. Now the Hyper-energy Institute has begun new research. The scientists and engineers are trying to break the traditional sci-tech theory, and develop a series of brand new projects and abilities.

3. Expanding Zones
After the galaxy has faced nearly a millennia of war, the known planets have become like wastelands, including Neptune, the Ocean, the Moon... All their resources have been destroyed by the Othello invaders. The Alliance pilots have to explore new planets with the hope of finding new resources to use in battle. The discovery of the new zones will bring rich resources to the Alliance, however the Othello will never stop the invasion. They are trying to obtain these new resources, as well. The battle is reaching an apex, merely waiting for the catalyst needed to send it over the edge.

Assassins, warriors shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, are one of the most appealing professions in RPG/MMO. The assassin is a master of stealth, subterfuge and deception. They have created many renowned legends in history, and nowadays these ancient warriors have been revived in movies, games and other mediums. Let's take a look at this mysterious profession's cultural background.

The Middle-eastern Assassin

The term 'Assassin' derives from the Arabic word Hashshashin from the eighth to the fourteenth centuries. This mystic secret society killed members of the Abbasid and Seljuq élite for political and religious reasons. The original place they started their elite group was in Alamut, Iran (Persia) and later traveled to other countries.

It is popularly believed that the assassins were under the influence of hashish and opium during their killings or during their indoctrination, and that assassin derives from hasishin, the influence of the drugs. One of the legends about the Assassins was that they were drugged to simulate "dying", to later awaken in a garden flowing with wine and served a sumptuous feast by virgins. The supplicant was then convinced he was in Heaven and that the cult's leader, Hasan-i Sabbah, was a representative of the divinity and all his orders should be followed, even unto death.

The Hashshashin were meticulous in killing the targeted individual, seeking to do so without any additional casualties and innocent loss of life, although they were careful to cultivate their terrifying reputation by slaying their victims in public, often in mosques. Typically, they approached using a disguise. Preferring a small hidden blade or dagger, they rejected poison, bows and other weapons that allowed the attacker to escape and live. For unarmed combat, the Hashshashin practiced a fighting ****called Janna which incorporates striking techniques, grappling and low kicks. However, under no circumstances did they commit suicide, preferring to be killed by the master himself.

The power of the Hashshashin was destroyed by the invading Mongols. However, parts of its lore had been preserved by Marco Polo and Islamic historians. Inspired by their legends, Ubisoft published a popular stealth game, Assassin's Creed, in 2007.

The Oriental Assassin, Ninja

The ninja is an oriental assassin. Ninja is the on'yomi reading of the two kanji 忍者 used to write shinobi-no-mono (忍の者), which is the native Japanese word for people who practice ninjutsu (忍術).

Ninjutsu was developed as a collection of fundamental survivalist techniques in the warring states of feudal Japan. The ninja used their art to ensure their survival in a time of violent political turmoil. Ninjutsu included methods of gathering information, and techniques of non-detection, avoidance, and misdirection. Ninjutsu can also involve training in disguise, escape, concealment, archery, medicine, explosives, and poisons.

Back in feudal Japan, the conflicts between the clans of daimyo that controlled small regions of land had established guerrilla warfare and assassination as a valuable alternative to frontal assault. Since Bushido, the samurai code, forbade such tactics as dishonorable, a daimyo could not expect his own troops to perform the tasks required; thus, he had to buy or broker the assistance of ninja to perform selective strikes, espionage, assassination, and infiltration of enemy strongholds.

The mystique and allure of the ninja has made it a popular character in game culture. Famous ninja themed video games include Ninja Gaiden and Tenchu. Many MMORPGs also list the ninja in their job lineup. The ancient Chinese MMO Conquer Online has chosen ninja as the new profession for its expansion, New Dynasty. It is said that ninjstsu stems from ancient China's art of warfare. Now the ninjas, with their fabled weapons and mysterious skills, are ready to whip up a storm in the fantastic world of Conquer Online.

It is very obvious that players' influence is growing stronger and stronger on the online games, or more exactly, the game developers. Some critics reject player intervention with the process of game design. However, from my point of view, the online games are owned by the community, not the creator.

Just like other businesses, the need to satisfy customers has the priority. Game developers are providing the gamers with what they are looking for, basically with the end goal of getting the gamer to empty his wallet to purchase something. Moreover, players are spoiled by the game industry. Years before there was only very few MMOs for players' choice. As a new genre, MMOs easily satisfied players' needs. But now, everything has changed.

New MMOs are coming out every week, from fantasy to SCIFI, western ****to Asian **** The market is nearly saturated. Players are much fussier than before, or even start to burnout, leaving the genre altogether. In such a buyer's market, gamers surely own the game to a significant extent. Game developers have to constantly add new content, modify the skill and the lore, and host various events according to players' anticipation.

For the upcoming Halloween, game designers are releasing various events to amuse their players. Conquer Online has prepared a Halloween Masquerade in which players can dress up and upload the photos to win the rich in-game currency. This is "trick or treat". Give us the candy or we egg your house! Anyway, it is Halloween. Enjoy it.

I don't see the point of wasting money on crap like Conquer Online and Maple Story.RK-Mara

You know the MMO just like the real world. people are always eager to show off themselves. In the real world, you can show off your GUCCI handbag and BMW car. While in games, things turn to super gear and exotic mount.

The gold farmers in the MMOs are infamous to most players as they spamming in general chat channels and on various game forums. Designers and gamers alike are blaming them for the obstruction of gameplay and inflation in the game's economy system. I used to agree with this point of view and thought that as a real gamer, one should not pay real cash for the virtual items. But as my gaming experience grows, my opinion has changed.

Game developers hate gold farmers as they may destroy the economy system in game, and consequently lead to efflux of players. On the other hand, the game designers, as the creators of the virtual world, keep adding new mounts, items, equipment, skills, scrolls and other dazzling items to suck gold from players. These items are usually essential for gamers to enter high-level/dangerous regions. Players have to spend more time on grinding (P2P) or turn into cash shops (F2P) if players want to continue their adventure. For example, Blizzard is constantly adding mounts and items to WOW and players who are hooked are spending uncountable hours to gather rare ores, herbs and other high value material to trade for gold. In this way, Blizzard is earning tons of money, the "real" kind of money. For those free-to-play MMOs, the status of a cash shop is even more critical as it is the only way that the game developers can earn money from the games. Look at Conquer Online's cash shop, it has everything necessary to transform a noob into a superman -all you need is a wad of cash. So most game companies police gold farmers with an iron fist to protect their own interests. In a word, fundamentally, the game companies and the gold famers are just rivals who are trying their best to hook game money.

To gamers, rampant gold spamming is indeed annoying, as well as noobs with real-cash-bought super gear. However, maybe we shall observe the problem from a different aspect. As I stated previously, the MMO gamers are exploring a virtual world which is designed and controlled delicately by the game developers. To access the higher-level regions and new game content, gamers have to obtain decent items and experience, usually by grinding, to enhance their characters. But for those players who don't have much time, like someone who has a real day job, they only have 2 choices: quit playing or find someone else to grind for them. If some extra bulk purchases can make the gameplay much smoother and help many couch potatoes to get a life, why should we still blame it.

I know many hardcore gamers are pissed off by the real-money-trade. But remember, in many aspects, the MMO community is just like the real world, where money can transform a zero to a hero in an instant. Don't like trimming your lawn? Just pay someone to do it for you.

What is your point of view? Please discuss:)
