Yah sure, they have a 3 year warranty, but warranty isn't a fix, it's merely an assurance. Imagine a doctor prescribing medicine to you, but tells you he is not sure if it is the right medicine for you, and if it isn't, go back to him to try a different medicine and it will be free of charge. That's a quack doctor. And so is Microsoft.

With the difference that a wrong medicine could seriously hurt you while the XBOX will be away for 2 weeks for repairing. The RROD is bad, but with the extended guarantee and the small price you really can't complain. The PS3 is also more expensive because its integrated parts are of higher quality.

Atari has shot a huge own-goal with their marketing-strategy:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53249

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/06/atari-sues-over.html

Hopefully they'll learn a lesson from Alone in the dark and release future games when they're done instead of trying to push an undone game. (As you can see in many other cases as well, unfortunately - Assassin's creed for example)

Today's video game industry is too much about hard release dates and marketing - with a few exceptions (Gears of War 1 & 2 for example) we see so many titles which feel as if the developers should've spent a few more months to finish the game. Those companies seem to plan only in short terms to receive the most money in the shortest time period instead of creating great games which will pay out even more in the end and keep customers.

PES is another example. Why does Konami have to release a new soccer title each year (with last year's installation turning out as a totally unfinished game, confirmed by the main developer) instead of creating one great soccer game and taking enough time to finish it?

Anyway - I won't buy any Atari game in the next time.

I'm playing Dead Rising right now, just got my XBOX 2 months ago and Dead Rising for some weeks ago...'been playing it for around 2 weeks (only 1-2 hours per day) and it's getting better and better. At first I was bugged by the save system but then I realized "hey - you can see where the toilets are on your map - you can save much more often than you thought!" and now I don't have to repeat whole missions, anymore. You just have to get used to look for toilets and save regulary, then it's a lot of fun.

The story is much better than you'd expect, especially the cutscenes and the characters. Voice-acting is very movie-like. But especially the "bosses" are a lot of fun and very unique characters.

I'd say anyone who likes action games should get this game. Slashing zombies has never been so much fun. :)

Well you are wrong in regards to the differences between the PS3 and 360 games.

While mediocre to okay multiplats are usually better on the 360, most of the big multiplats(ie the games you will probably actually buy) either run slightly better on the PS3 or are exactly the same. But PS3 has a noticeable edge when it comes to exclusives.

Truth-slayer

Just yesterday, I tried out Top Spin 3, and again: framerate issues on the PS3. On the XBOX: none.

Same thing with PES 2008 for example.

I dunno, it sounds like you're fine with what you've got. Why don't you just save up and get a PS3 also?

Cause my wife will probably kill me if she sees two consoles in my room;)

I probably should also mention my XBOX pros and cons:

XBOX pros:

- cheap

- more games

- current games mostly work better (framerate) than on PS3

XBOX cons:

- XBL costs 50 EUR per year

- it's LOUD

- can't simply exchange harddrive like on PS3

- hardware's not that worthy built than PS3

Hey guys,

I just posted a topic about whether or not to get a PS3 yesterday in the PS3-forum, which was closed by moderation (sorry - I'm new here). I would like to continue the discussion and think this is probably the right sub-forum for that.

Here's the original thread:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26450977

with my first post:

Hey guys,

since 2 months, I'm a XBOX 360 owner who also had a PS3 borrowed from his friend for several weeks - and somehow I fell in love with the PS3. And I'm constantly thinking about whether I should've gotten a PS3....but there are some major disadvantages that still hold me back from buying one. Here's my pro / contra list:

PS3 Pro:

- It's quiet! In comparison to the XBOX 360, this device is so quiet...I love it just because of this fact, already.
- The online mode is free. Nice.
- The controllers don't need extra batteries.
- It's build more stable / worthy than the XBOX.
- It looks nice.
- I want to love it...it somehow gives me the feeling that Sony have a "good heart".

PS3 Contra:

- Many games work worse on the PS3 today than on the XBOX. Many frame-rate issues, which aren't that bad on the XBOX.
- It's more expensive as the XBOX 360.
- There are a lot less used games for the PS3 and these are mostly more expensive than the used ones for the XBOX.
- There are less games in general.
- The standard controller doesn't vibrate, have to buy a new one for that.

So what do you think, guys? I got a XBOX with GTA4 for 270 EUR....and am thinking about selling it and getting a PS3, which costs 420 EUR. But still there are those contra-points which hold me back. What do you think about my arguments and would your advise be?

Thanks for your help, guys.

Well, i have some points that i need to mention first of all..... you have so many spelling mistakes..: ""hey guys, since two months""?!?!?!, AND WTH IS A CONTRA!!?!? its cons.

Alright anyways aside fromt hat the main question is have you posted in the 360 forum writing the exact same thing? Because if u havent created a thread in the 360 forum and only posted in the ps3 that means somewhere deep inside that mind of yours you are compelled to buy a PS3 and you've come here to post to give your own mind another reason to go out and buy the best next gen console. Fact is your cons (contras...) can all b fixed with time remember that PS3 came a year after the 360 and developers find it easy to continuously work with the same disc (cd's) but with the PS3 its blu-ray so developers have to adapt... i think i know what you want to do: go out and buy a PS3 you wont regret it.

Hi Blaze,

sorry for my English, I'm no native speaker and out of practice;)

I haven't posted the same thing in the 360 forum, why should I? I wanted to ask you guys (PS3 users), cause you probably know my "cons" from personal experience. Especially the framerate-issues (which are caused by the different programming of PS3s-CPUs, which is said to be much harder than programming the XBO).

Many games also aren't released as "classics" for the PS3 and aren't getting cheaper even 1 year after their release. Another con.

I just wanted to have an objective discussion with you guys about my pros and cons.
