What caused the problems they are facing, from a public point of view, is that no one, even in their wildest dreams, thought that Star Citizen would garner the interest and money it has. All C.I.G. are doing is honouring their initial promise to keep us backers up to date and engaged with the development process. 1.4 million backers (accounts) and $116 million later, they are still honouring that promise. You know what though, most of the people who backed this only want a great game and are willing to let C.I.G. have the time they need to do just that, hell we've certainly given the funds for them to do so.
How many other game studios have openly developed a multiplayer game at the same time as running a constantly supported alpha, which gets bigger and better with every patch? Then just to add to it, they're also developing a fully realised single player game with A list stars in major roles, entirely performance captured, with a branching story, almost completely from the player perspective. Then just to top it off it's entirely crowd funded, there are no publishers, no investors or hedge funds trying to limit the game so as they can get an early return on their cash. I can never put into words just how mammoth the task is they have taken on board and to my eyes, appear to be managing it very well.
It beggars belief just how many clueless fools out there want the game to fail, all so as they can laugh at others on the internet. Sad, sad people indeed, I almost feel sorry for them.
