the image above is in response to all the humorous posts for lifting my mood, for the serious ones, thanks for giving me peace of mind, especially you digital exile, kittehs to me are serious business, for their health and my own, i was very worried, but i figure as you've mentioned, hand washing should be enough, and i shall be limiting my period of contact with them, and will use gloves just to be on the safe side. thanks for the humor and the reassurance OT, you never dissapoint! :D
Is this serious? You're not eating their feces and none of them bit you so hard they drew blood, and as far as you're telling us, they don't have any gigantic gaping, pussing sores that could cause issues. You touched their fur. Also, either figure that you're going to adopt these kitties because you've kind of given them some hope by feeding them regularly, or find homes for them. Winter is coming and they'll likely die if they can't find any food or fresh water or adequate shelter. I'm getting all upset now thinking of kitties not having homes, so I'll leave it at that and leave this thread before I get really upset.XilePrincess
yes exil princess i am seroius, took some pics on phone as proof, but that's beside the point, yes it's just a playful bite here and there, and yes i do feed them everyday, but seeing as a broke college student with a rigorous major, i don't have the time to find them a home, but i do give them mlik/water/food in general twice a day.
i hate to see them out in the cold as well, but they're furry litle things so i know they'll be somewhat warm with all that fur. i have considered just setting up a little home of sorts since it does get chilly at night around here, though it isn't as bad since it's houston so it's not like freezing, kind of like a pleasant kind of cold.
as for shelter, just incase althought i'm sure the other neighbors that feed them also must have some kind of shelter for them as well, but i'm going to be leaving a big cardboard box w/blankets inside of it incase at night it gets really cold, thought i doubt it, houston is known for it's heat, an dlike 75 degrees is considered cold here so i wouldn't worry about them freezing every night, so rest easy

they did playfully bite my finger, nothing that left a scratch/deep cut or anything, licked my finger a little too :s
that's why i'm so concerned, because it wasn't just basic petting, it was that too, even though i've washed my hands afterwards, just can't help but think i may have missed a small spot, and it's gonna initiate some disease taht i won't even be aware of until it's too late, that's my main concern here :(
and as much as i appreciate the humor, i'm being a little serous here guys, someone with vet/animal/cat experience who can provide input would be appreciated, i just hope this isn't something i should be worrying this much about, hopefully will just pass it as pure paranoia, but i need to be sure, preferably from the aforementioned experienced people
Just calm down about it. Do some basic research if you haven't already and see if sray cats carrying dangerous diseases is common. In all likelihood though I doubt they, or you, have anything; and after all they live in your backyard so figure out what other animals there are in the area that might spread disease. I've had pets (a few strays) all my life and disease was never an issue.Snce you're feeding them you could spend a few bucks on some general work tablets or something if you're REALLY worried and just put them in the food next time you feed them.
thanks for the response, as far as i know, they live in backyards, since the house behind mine has a backyard too and there's a hole on the bottom of the fence through which they come when it's time to feed them etc., so my guess is they stay in backyards for the most part, don't know about what to do for the majority of the day but my guess is they usually jsut run around backyards or something like that. other than the cats, there are other cats in the area, some are running around the street, but these cats/kittens are the only ones that come in my backyard, haven't seen them bring any new cat so my guess is they keep to themselves ie no contact with other animals at least i hope not.
when you say "stray cats', meaning they haven't had shots or anything either right? and since you've had a few strays, i take it that you've petted them and have had no medical repercussions afterwards, considering you were sanitary about it, if that's th ecase then thank you, really my mind's more at ease now.
sorry for all the questions but, what do you mean by "work" tablets? if there's a rep thing on here i'd definitely give you reps but i dunno how, ima noob at forum stuff :/

hey all, i usually feed some stray kitties that come into my backyard, toady i petted some of them (and have been in the past), but washed my hands right after.
i've heard of horror stories where people can get meningitis from petting stray kitties, or ticks/fleas and other horrible diseases. and now i'm kind of paranoid that i may have contracted some kind of disease, i've always washed my hands thoroughly after petting them, and i've only petted them like two times, so just wanted a second opinion of the all-wise and knowledgeable OT of gamespot on whether or not theres anything else i can do to reduce the risk, i'll be wearnig glvoes from now on while feeding them, but i ust hope i'm not too late and haven't contracted anything :/
True dat, some good and bad things have happened, but where I'm at now, there's a chance incould still make it much much better and go back to the "good ol days"Nope,i never thought i would be in a bad situacion in my life but things happens & life must go on :(

calc 2 professor, was russian can't even spell/pronounce his name but, horrible english, horrible teaching style/method, if anyone had a question and he was unable to explain properly (which most of the class agreed was 99% of the time), he would get pissed at the student for not understanding and say to just consult the book.
his tests covered everythign BUT what we covered in homework/test review, so most were pretty much failing. and it pisses me off how they had crappy teachers like him still employed when i know for a fact there's more than a dozen MUCH better teachers out there, yet this douche who cant even speak english right has a job, and a teaching one at that.......
think his name was eugene eugene kravosky some russian name like that
Agreed. Except asians and black chicks...though most will prolly disagree. agreed docdelicious, except the asian part. asians are beautiful too, and whatever the definition of beauty is, black chicks aren't even close, at least to me, everytime i see one i feel kinda sorry for them with their wierd names and the likeThe other thing which represents the essense of beauty to me is the female anatomy. Quite simply sublime. :)
