he was probably referring to microevolution or natural selection(which creationists dont have a problem with its the whole we evolved from monkey bit) Just for the record I am not catholic so anything the pope says does not apply to me. I am protestant the two are very different

The problem with your "ground water flooded the earth" hypothesis is that geysers also release a ton of toxic gas. If every geyser on earth were to spew long enough to flood the earth (assuming that's even possible) the result would be that the atmosphere would have so much sulfur and methane in it that all life would choke to death. So in your explanation Noah, his family, and everything on their ship would have died just as quickly as everyone else. Hell, they probably would have died before the flood waters even hit.
