Hello;
I have a simple question:
Which of these setups performs better on average:
1) 8800 GTS G92 SLI
2) 3870 Crossfire
?
with my Q6600 @ 3.6ghz (3.9 is only for benching)
in DX9 under Vista 64, all settings high, 1680x1050 no AA... i get 49.7fps average.
in DX10 under Vista 64, all settings Very high, 1680x1050 no AA, i get 35fps average.
patch 1.1 with Nvidia beta 169.28's did wonders for SLI.

According to Nvidia's main website, one of this driver's highlights is:
Adds increased SLI and 3-way SLI performance in Crysis when used with the official Crysis Patch v1.1
But this made me think something like this beta driver will only make SLI work better with Crysis, while it will perform worse in other ultimate games than does the latest stable driver. May this be considered just pure speculation?
Well according to that link, the 5% performance gain playing Crysis on XP is only for all the game settings except for Very High Setting. The performance gain on this setting is of 20% in XP.... which is a really nice gain.
So if one has a really powerful SLI or crossfire machine who can decently play Crysis at Very High Settings on Vista, then why not switching to XP and enjoy this juicy 20% gain? (Of course, this is assuming that the required tweaking on XP files is done)
There are also new RPG's that will be released on 2008, like:
- Fallout 3
- Gothic 4
- Dragon Age
- Hard to be God
- Aion
Aion has REALLY impressive graphics but is only multiplayer.
I haven't ever played the fallout series, and so I don't know up to what extent does this series fit my needs.
Dragon Age seems that it's to be a kick ass RPG for its innovative features, but I haven't seen a video of it still. GameSpot doesn't have a video yet, so I can't tell how well will this game fit my needs.
I don't know a thing about Hard to be God...
What do you think?
Thanks.
Well... it seems that I have no choice but to wait till an RPG meeting my needs is finally released... it might even be years... :(
I must also clarify from my initial statement that I haven't played Gothic 3 still; when I said that I wanted an RPG with a theme like Gothic 3's, it doesn't mean that I have already played Gothic 3, I have played Gothic 1 and Gothic 2, so I already know that Gothic 3's theme is not different from its predecessor's theme. But, I do have played Oblivion already...
So I guess I would have to change my question to the following one :
Which of the following games best meet the needs expressed in my initial statement?
- The Witcher
- Gothic 3
- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (in case of being single player too)
- NWN2
- Hard to be God
- Guild Wars 2
Since I don't know many RPG games, my list comes short.
Please help.
Thanks.
Hello all;
I just purchased a new system that will have Vista 64 bit, (2x) 8800 GTS 512MB (G92) SLI, a quad core at 3.2 Ghdz and 4Gb 800Mhz low latency Ram. I hope this is enough to run every RPG game released till now and on a near future, with all their graphical settings completely maxed. This is just to clear out that the hardware will not be considered when you all help me to choose my right RPG. Also, please beware the compatibilities with the OS.
So I want the right RPG game for me. The most important things I want on an RPG are the following:
1) The best graphical environment providing rich textures, great shadowing, great water details, the best facial detail and all to be known about graphics. It must also have a real deep line of sight when on outdoors to enable even more realism. If it has DirectX 10 enabled, then much better!
2) It must have a non linear story, and it must allow free roaming.
3) It must have at least an acceptable amount of bugs, none if possible.
4) It must have a complex character customization allowing many races, guilds, and alignments.
5) It must have a huge variety of monsters and items to wield.
6) It must be set on a Gothic 3 or Oblivion like theme and story. In other words, to control a character that would roam on medieval like castles, yield medieval weapons and cast alike magics.
7) It must be really NPC realistic, having realistic NPC's interactions, interesting dialogues, including sophisticated AI and not moronic AI.
These are the most important things I'm looking for in an RPG based game. I know that maybe it could be extremely difficult to find an RPG game that meets all these needs. If so, I would like to know the best approximation(s) for this. If even this is not possible, please provide an RPG meeting these needs that would be released this year or in 2009.
I really like to play RPG's, but need proper education on this.
I will really appreciate all insights on this topic.
Thanks you all.
How much of average additional FPS does the 8800 GTS 512MB SLI has over 8800 GT 512MB SLI on the ultimate games such as Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Bioshock, etc? If anybody has links or images to benchmark results it would be better.
Note: I have seen results with overclocking. But I want to see results without overclocking, to preserve purity and get better conclusions.
Thanks.
WHAT??? So this means that INTEL is massively robbing everyone, selling E6850's for more than $100 only for more overclocking?? Because if they all have the same architecture, the I'm guessing that what differentiates each of the core 2 duos is its overclocking levels, the higer the number the more overclocking.... This is impressive.
Sorry, but I didn't know this. Then of course, the E4500 would be by far the BEST buy. What what has me concerned is its FSB of only 800 mhz. Can that be overclocked too?
