Im buying a cheap gaming computer for about $250.. but it has no OS. I'll just use Linux, but hold much will I be held back? Will I be able to run newer games?
Very uneducated about OS's....

For $450 I think this would be a good build http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=19825571

 Also feel free to look on other sites like tigerdirect and amazon for same parts at better price.

Woah. sweet, thanks! I'm very new too computer gaming.. haha.. this seems like a good build though thanks! I'll need to get a wireless card thing though.. haha, but those are relatively cheap anyways. Anyways thanks for that build :D might end up upgrading the PSU a little further, just because in the future I plan on upgrading the computer a little more so i can play some more modern games. again thanks guys :D

[QUOTE="basebob28"][QUOTE="darksusperia"]just buy this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312242 profit.redskins26rocs

I actually kind of like that.. but I want a desktop .. any ideas? :P

Budget?

I have $210 right now with maybe another $150-$200 on the way... I dont need an OS. (I think.. can linux play minecraft and steam games..?) I guess I COULD build.. I was thinking something like this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpXgG6MWZss but that costs $400 now instead of $300.. so for budget i'd say something around $450 oh btw I already have moniter keyboard and mouse.

[QUOTE="basebob28"]

Buying a computer to run simply minecraft and steam games like gmod.

Intel Pentium D 3Ghz (DUAL CORE processor)

ATI Radeon HD2400 XT 256MB Video Card

3 gb ram.

Your money would be better spent on a $400 laptop than that hunk of junk. sorry.

tbh my intel pentium 2.0 ghz with intergrated graphics could play minecraft at med 20 fps. ($200 laptop) rather have insight then pointless bashing.

Im upgrading gpu psu and ram.. lol. and my intel pentium w/ integrated graphics laptop could run minecraft at max with 40fps, I could even start black ops 2 with 5 fps... I think everyone is underestimating newer parts.. thinking you need the newest and best.. lol. and I dont care about the case (x

I don't think the video card in the description is all that good. Also, it says "plays all current games at 60 fps or higher". That is a straight up lie, unless he's talking about lower settings. There is absolutely no way in hell that is getting 60+ fps in modern graphic intensive shooters from this year, at max settings. Description specifically mentions that it runs Diablo 3 smoothly at 1080p, but that's not an impressive feat.

Regardless of all that, I'd be wary about buying a computer on ebay. Also, if you're on a budget, that's all the more reason to avoid a prebuilt and just build one yourself (or buy parts and have your local computer shop put it together, which will likely still be cheaper than a prebuilt).

I agree I'll also end up replacing the graphics card in the future.. along with upgrading the ram. Just want a cheap computer to upgrade kind of.. don't like building from scratch. But I also agree about "the lie" but Im okay with somewhat lower graphics, especially since Ill replace the gpu in the near furute anyway, but thanks for your input !

Not looking for anything really fancy, but will that be able to play modern games at med-max settings??? (I know some things on it are weaker but I can upgrade in the future) I'll upgrade the PSU soon after purchase

Thanks :D
