Naruto Episode 38: Those who pass cut down to half? Its a fight without warning

The Genins listen as the Hokage explains the true purpose of the Chuunin Exam. They then move on to the rules. Gekkou Hayate, the judge, steps forward to explain that there are too many examinees left and they must hold a preliminary one on one matches to see who advances to the Third Exam. He then asks for volunteers to quit as the prelimilaries will begin immediately.

Sakura notices Sasuke is clutching his shoulder in pain where the seal is. She begs him to withdraw. The Hokage and Anko also notice Sasuke’s pain. Anko thinks they should take him out of the exams and isolate him with ANBU escorts. Kakashi assures her that Sasuke is stubborn and won’t quit easily. Meanwhile, Sakura again begs Sasuke to withdraw or she’ll tell the instructors.

Suddenly, Konoha’s Yakushi Kabuto raises his hand and is dismissed. Naruto asks why he’s quitting. He replies that his body is completely worn out. He can’t fight right away. The Hokage remembers that he retired during the Main Exam last time. Anko looks him up to find that he has failed six times in a row. The Hokage grows suspicious and asks about his background. He didn’t stand out at the academy, but his grades were normal. He passed the graduation exam on his third try. After that, he did two C-rank missions and 14 D-rank ones. Nothing spectacular, however before he entered the academy, he was brought back from the Kikyo Pass battle. A Jounin from the medic squad took custody of an enemy’s boy that was left on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Kabuto’s teammates tell him to remember Orochimaru’s orders. He assures them that he will leave everything up to them, especially Yoroi. He then walks away. He can’t let them know that he’s a spy just yet.

Sakura attempts to put up her hand, but Sasuke slaps it down. He asks why she cares so much. It’s none of her business. He’s an avenger. This isn’t an exam to him and he doesn’t care bout being Chuunin. He needs to know if he’s strong, so he must fight the strong guys: Gaara, Neji, Lee, Dosu. He won’t allow her to choose his path. When Naruto interjects, Sasuke tells him he’d like to fight him as well. The Hokage agrees to let him continue in the prelims despite Anko’s concerns. If his seal opens up, they are to stop him.

The prelims start. There will be 10 matches of one on one. There are no rules. They will fight until the other person dies, is knocked out, or admits defeat. If they don’t wish to die, they should give up. However, if Hayate senses that the match is over, he will declare it so to prevent any unnecessary deaths. The winners will advance to the Third Exam.

The first match is Akadou Yoroi vs Uchiha Sasuke. Sakura watches concerned. Kakashi walks over to Sasuke and warns him not to use his Sharingan. If the seal on his neck becomes uncontrollable, it may kill him. Kakashi will stop the match if he does use it.

Sasuke is at a disadvantage as he can’t even use normal techniques since his seal reacts to his chakra levels. The match starts and both begin hand to hand combat. Sasuke capture Yoroi in a lock, but Yoroi uses his ability to drain Sasuke’s strength. Yoroi then attacks, absorbing Sasuke’s chakra.

Naruto Episode 37: Second Exam Completed! All of Them are Here, the Rookie Nine!

Inside the tower, Naruto and Sakura open each of their scrolls, which summons Iruka-sensi. He smiles happily declaring the Second Exam finished. They have passed and he’d like to treat them to ramen at Ichiraku. Happily, Naruto jumps for joy at the suggestion. Sasuke asks what would have happened if they would have looked at the scrolls during the Exam. Iruka explains that if they were to break the rules and open the scroll during the Exam, he was ordered to knock out the examinees until the Second Exam ended.

Sakura then asks what the scroll on the wall means. Iruka explains that this is what Hokage-sama wrote as the underlying principle of being a Chuunin. The “Heaven” points to the head of a person. The “Earth” is the body. For example, if Naruto’s weakness is his brains, he should study and prepare for his missions. For those, like Sakura, who don’t possess strength, they should train every day. Once they have both attributes, any dangerous missions will become safe. Sakura asks about the missing letter. He explains that’s the “human” letter in the scrolls that goes there. The survival mission of the past five days tested the basic abilities of the examinees as a Chuunin. They’ve completed it. A Chuunin is a commanding class and has the ability to lead a team. They must understand the importance of knowledge and strength in missions.

Iruka-sensei then expresses concern that the three are pushing themselves. Naruto tells him not to worry. He’s a ninja now. Iruka thinks back to when he asked Anko to be their informer. He was the one to argue that he knows their abilities better than anyone… even Kakashi. If they can’t make it through, he wanted to be the one to tell them. Anko had high hopes for them at the time, particularly since they were Kakashi’s team. He thinks back to when Kakashi recommended them to take the Chuunin and his initial opposition, believing that they weren’t ready yet. He then realizes how far along they’ve come.

Anko sits in the Hokage’s office holding her cursed seal. One of the Konoha nins in the room asks if Orochimaru is one of the Sannin from the Konoha legends. He’s an S-Class exiled ninja that even ANBU couldn’t deal with. They wonder why he came back to Konoha. Anko remembers Orochimaru’s words… he wants Sasuke. Soon, she is informed that 21 people passed the Second Exam. According to Chuunin regulations, they will have to do preliminary matches for the first time in five years. The Second Exam is now officially over.

Anko congratulates the 21 students out of 78 who passed the Second Exam. She was expecting only about 10. Gai-sensei talks crap about Kakashi’s team, but Kakashi completely ignores him, much to Gai-sensei’s dismay. Lee vows he will never lose again… he will never see the tears of an important person again. All the rookies from Konoha passed. They all look around observing who is left.

The Hokage declares the start of the Third Exam, but first he explains the true purpose of the exam. The Chuunin exam is completed with participations from allied nations to maintain good relations with those allied nations and to heighten the level of the ninja. This exam is the epitome of a war between the allied nations. In history, these allied nations were neighboring countries that have fought each other over and over. To avoid wasting military power, those countries decided to choose a place to fight. That is the beginning of the Chuunin Selection exam. The Hokage explains that the exam does choose who is of Chuunin level, but it is also a place where ninjas fight and carry their country’s dignity. In the Third Exam, feudal lords and famous people from various countries who may be potential clients are invited as guests to watch the battles. If there’s a significant difference in power, the strong country will be flooded with jobs. If a country is seen as weak, their jobs will decrease. The countries are also able to show how their village has grown and possess excellent military power to the adjacent countries so they can put foreign pressure on them. Kiba asks why they fight by risking their lives. The Hokage explains that a country’s power is the village’s power. A village’s power is the ninja’s power. And a ninja’s true power is only born in life or death battle. This Exam is a place to show off the ninja power of one’s country. Because they fight with their life, the Exam has meaning. That is the reason their predecessors have fought and dreamed of being in the Chuunin Exam. The custom of saving one’s life and fighting to maintain balance - that is the good relation in the world of ninja. This is a life or death battle for your dream and village’s dignity.

The Hokage then prepares to explain what’s involved with the Third Exam. Gekkou Hayate, the judge, asks permission to explain the rules.

Naruto Episode 36: Replication Match! Im the Main Character!

Exhausted, Sakura drops to her knees as the group realizes they haven’t moved any closer to the tower. Kabuto points to the large bug Naruto killed several hours previously. They realize they’re caught in an illusory technique and the enemy may attack soon. Sure enough, several rain nin clones appear.

Naruto attacks, taking out a clone. It liquefies and divides itself to create a new head & body from the waist up. When the double headed clone attacks Naruto, Sasuke counters with a kunai. The clone retaliates by throwing one back at him, and Sasuke suddenly is paralyzed. Kabuto rescues him just in time. Soon, Sasuke’s seal becomes active and he cringes in pain.

The group is puzzled by Kabuto’s injury. Does that mean clones might actually be real? Sasuke and Kabuto are certain it’s just an illusion technique and the real enemies are hiding somewhere in the forest with a real kunai. According to Kabuto’s data, those who are weak in close combat prefer to attack like this. The real enemy won’t appear until they are too weak to move.

The clones attack with kunais as Naruto and co. dodge their attacks. Naruto decides he wants a go at taking out the clones. The enemy won’t be able to attack during the time it takes for them to return to normal. Kabuto warns him against using his chakra, but Naruto ignores him and does Shadow Replication. The other three soon join the attack. After a period of fighting, they tire and rain nin, Mubi, stops his illusory technique. The three rain nins appear, one still pissed that Sasuke wounded his shoulder, and vows revenge.

Naruto and co. then appear behind the nins. Naruto explains that he used his shadow replication technique to pretend to be his teammates. When Naruto undid his replications, the three others hid. Naruto then uses the last of his chakra to take the three out. Everyone is impressed with Naruto’s chakra stamina.

The rain nins get up and prepare Ninpou, Oboro Bunshin no Jutsu! (Hazy Replication) to create a clone army. Naruto is certain that if they’re just replications, he can take them out by hitting the clones. Sasuke tries to use his Sharingan, but pain shoots down his neck. He wonders what’s wrong. He decides to use the last of his chakra to see through the clone technique, but as he does, his seal activates and he drops to his knees in pain. As Naruto looks over, a clone attacks, and Kabuto saves him. Sasuke then explains that the real one isn’t in the group of replicas.

The rain nins then realize that Naruto’s out of chakra and attack. Sasuke uses Sharingan again to see that the real ones conceal themselves using an earth element technique and attack from beneath the replicas. They then attack Kabuto, who drops to the ground. Naruto does a side kick to take the three down and save Kabuto.

After the battle, Naruto ties up the rain nin team and finds a Scroll of Heaven. They then make it to the tower just in time. Sasuke is certain there is more to Kabuto than what he seems. Meanwhile, Kabuto hands over his card with all Naruto’s data from the Second Exam to Orichimaru, when it is revealed that Kabuto is a spy from Hidden Sound Village.

Once inside the tower, Sakura points to a scroll on the wall: “If you do not possess Heaven, gain knowledge and be prepared. If you do not possess Earth, run through the fields and seek strength. If you open both Heaven and Earth scrolls, dangerous paths turn into safe paths. This is the secret of something… it should lead you on your way.” Sakura decides the wall scroll is referring to the two they’ve found and she and Naruto open each of theirs cautiously.

Naruto Episode 35: Absolutely No Peeking! The Secret of the Scroll

Naruto does Shadow Replication in hopes of catching more fish. Sasuke throws kunai and nails three to a tree. Sakura calls and asks if Sasuke can do Blazing Fireball to start the fire. It’s been four days since the Second Exam started. They only have about 25-26 hours left. Things aren’t looking good.

Sakura thinks it may be possible that no more Heaven scrolls left. They’ve wasted 80% of their time. There are only 13 heaven scrolls and 13 earth scrolls and only 13 teams can pass. And Orochimaru burned their Heaven scroll, so now only 12 teams pass now. There’s no guarantee any more are left. They rested two days after splitting from the Konoha teams. Now they need to increase the distance they travel in the day in hopes of finding a last enemy.

Naruto looks over at the scroll and forms a plan. He has a bunch of blank scrolls with him. If he was to edit one, he could make it look like the scroll of Heaven. Annoyed, Sakura informs him that they aren’t allowed to look inside, and that they’ll need a better plan. They don’t even know what’s inside the scroll to make a replica. Naruto thinks that they should try to open up the Scroll of Earth. Sakura won’t hear of it at first, but the more she thinks about it, the better it sounds.

Meanwhile, another team opens their scroll of Earth as Naruto starts to open his. He hesitates. The other Konoha member rips his open and the two who opened the scroll fall unconscious. As Naruto starts to open the scroll, Kabuto appears and stops him. When Sasuke returns from gathering water, he sees Kabuto and thinks he’s an enemy. Sakura and Naruto then are ashamed as Kabuto explains that previous Exam scrolls were made so that those who opened the scroll will see a sleep-inducing inscription. They will remain in the forest until the Exam ends. Sasuke asks what he’s doing in the woods alone… if he’s after the Scroll of Heaven. Kabuto explains that he has both scrolls and is heading to the tower to meet his teammates. Sasuke asks him to fight them. Naruto stands up for Kabuto, Sasuke is determined to put forth a challenge. This is the only way they can survive in the forest. Kabuto senses that Sasuke isn’t all that serious. He could have just attacked instead of declaring a challenge.

Kabuto then offers them advice. There are still enemies left, he’s sure of it. He then tells that the easiest place to get a scroll will be in the area around the tower. They head towards it hoping to find enemies with a Scroll of Heaven. They have a couple of possibilities: those with only 1 scroll hoping to collect the other, those with both scrolls heading towards the tower, and those who are “collectors” who try to get more than two scrolls. They keep extra scrolls and give one to the enemy in exchange for going free. Or by giving friends who are in the same village a scroll they need, so they can gain information to get through the remaining exams easier. Or crush those strong enemies to get to the third exam. Sasuke sees the reason Kabuto came with them… he’s afraid of these collectors too.

As the four walk, see the tower and sense an enemy. Naruto throws a kunai at a large centipede. Kabuto then asks Naruto to be quiet to not draw attention. They sense a trap. Naruto walks the other way to trigger a trap, but Kabuto uses a replacement Technique to save Naruto. They move stealthy towards the tower until they notice no matter how long they walk, they aren’t getting any closer to the tower.

Kabuto then points out the centipede Naruto killed. They’ve been tricked into walking in circles with an illusion technique. The enemy must be planning an attack once they’ve tired. Sure enough, an army of clone nins appears and surrounds the wood Konoha nins.

Naruto Episode 34: Akamaru Surprised! Gaaras Exceptional Ability.

Naruto awakens with a hit on the head by Choji. He immediately tells everyone to drop as Orochimaru must be in the air. Naruto immediately notices Sakura cut her hair and asks what happened. She says it’s a new image. Then Naruto asks why ShikaInoChoji is there. Sakura then replies that they helped them out. Tenten arrives and awakens Lee. She explains that Sasuke drove the Sound nin away then lectures him on stepping in by himself. Tenten is certain that if he didn’t act alone, he wouldn’t have lost. Still groggy and unaware of what just happened, Naruto makes fun of Lee. Sakura flips out. She then thanks Lee for helping. Lee vows to become stronger and that when they next meet, he will be stronger. Meanwhile, Sasuke can’t believe Lee lost to the Sound nin he just beat. As the commotion dies down, Ino offers to fix Sakura’s hair, while Neji looks down at Sasuke from the trees, certain that he is a powerful rival.

Kiba watches over Akamaru who has been shaking and crying for the last 12 hours… ever since that incident. Kiba and team were happily making their way to the tower after getting their final scroll. They stopped and Hinata used a Byokugan to spot Gaara about 1 km away. Kiba was a bit too sure of himself and decides to go after the other team. He tells his teammates that he only wants to observe. If the other team is too tough, they’ll just leave quietly. However, even before they arrive, Akamaru senses Gaara’s chakra and becomes extremely frightened. Meanwhile, 3 Hidden Valley of Rain nins challenge Gaara. The main Rain nin does Ninpou Jouro senbon! (Sprinkling Needles) to send hidden needles at Gaara. Gaara emerges from the attack unscathed, his sand acting as a shield. The Rain nin tries again, but again, the sand catches the needles. Gaara vows to make it rain blood. Kankuro explains that Gaara controls the sand inside the gourd. He hardens it with an enormous amount of Chakra. Only Gaara can use it, and he uses it to protect his body. Regardless of Gaara’s will, the sand shields him, so all attacks are nullified.

The Rain nin is now pissed and charges. Gaara does Desert Coffin , and the sand engulfs the Rain nin so he can’t move. Gaara slowly walks towards him with one of the Rain nin’s umbrellas and shields himself as he lifts the sand cocoon up and does Desert Funeral. The cocoon explodes, killing the sound nin. He assures the remaining Rain nins that their teammate felt no pain. The blood and tears then mix with his sand to further fuel the war. The remaining Rain nins then give him their Scroll of Heaven and plead for their lives, but Gaara repeats Desert Funeral, killing them. Kiba’s team flees from their hiding place.

Meanwhile, Gaara spots Kiba’s team and tells his teammates he hasn’t had enough. Kankura tries to talk sense into him. They only need one set of scrolls. He demands Gaara listen to his older brother once in a while. Gaara tells the two that he’s never thought of them as siblings. And if they get in his way, he’ll kill them. His big sister then attempts to calm him down. Gaara powers up, ready to use a sand attack on Kiba’s team, but another plea from his sister calms him. Gaara then walks away, as Kiba’s team narrowly escapes.

At the tower, Kiba’s team waits. Kiba admits that Akamaru said that the big guy is going to get killed by the kid from the Sand. The puppy is still shaking. The team hears voices and they see Gaara’s team waiting at the tower. They’ve already been waiting for 12 hours.

Meanwhile, Anko tries to explain that they can’t cancel the Chuunin exam. Another instructor comes in with a video tape of Gaara’s fight. He explains that 1 hour and 37 minutes after the exam started, Gaara’s team had finished. They finished in 97 min, breaking the old record by 4 hours. Anko is especially impressed that not only did they make it in that short of a timeframe, but Gaara is unharmed, a feat impossible for most Chuunins.

Naruto Episode 33: The Ultimate Formation! Ino Shika Chou!!

Sasuke awakens in a dream world and wonders where he is. He sees a figure though the trees. His younger self confronts him - mom and dad didn’t have to die. The clan was wiped out because he didn’t have enough power.

Back at the fight, Ino, Shikamaru and Choji step in to protect Sakura. Choji is not quite sold on entering this battle, but quickly changes his mind when Zaku tells him to run, fatty. Shikamaru explains that calling Chouji fat is taboo, and we soon see why. With Formation Ino ready to go, the three blend their techniques. Choji does Baika no Jutsu (Double Weight Technique) to turn himself into Meat Tank, a fairly entertaining and extremely large rolling ball. Zaku does Air Cutter to stop the rolling boulder, but when the force of the air hits the rotating ball, it flies up into the air. Dosu tries to protect his teammate, but Shiki performs Ninpou, Kage Mane no Jutsu (Shadow Copy Skill) to hold Dosu in place. Zaku just barely jumps out of the way of Choji as the large ball comes crashing down. Ino then performs Nintou, Shintenshin no Jutsu! (Mind transfer technique) on. She immediately takes a kunai to her throat and threatens Kin’s life. The sound nins don’t bite and Zaku and Dosu explain their purpose isn’t the scroll or the exam, it’s to kill Sasuke. Soon, InoShikaChou tires, with Shikamaru’s Shadow Copy only holding Dosu for about 5 minutes and the sound nins realizing that if they kill Kin, Ino will also die. Neji and Ten Ten then show up to witness the showdown. Neji’s eyes vein up and he threatens the sound nins. Dosu taunts him, but meanwhile, Neji senses Sasuke’s growing chakra level.

Inside Sasuke’s head, he remembers his parent’s death… everyone was killed. You let them die. You just watched them die… if he only had power. With that, he awakens as purple demon chakra pulsates though his body. The sound nins are amazed he survived the seal, as the seal is now covering his entire body. Sasuke then looks over at Sakura and asks who did that to her. He tells her not to worry. Orochimaru gave him power and he now understands that he’s an avenger. He must obtain power regardless of the source. Again he demands that Sakura tell him who did this to her. Zaku pipes up that he did.

Sensing something is going on, Team 10 makes way for the bushes nearby, as Sasuke basically goes Super Saiyan with his newly acquired power. As Zaku attempts to stop Sasuke with Maximum Air Cutter, Sasuke effortlessly picks up Naruto and Sakura and moves them out of harm’s way. He then performs Katon, Housenka (Phoenix Fire), fire balls that turn into shuriken, and attacks Zaku. Once he gets close enough to Zaku, he holds him by the arms, dislocating both shoulders. He then turns his attention to Dosu.

Sakura watches Sasuke’s actions with horror. Before he gets to Dosu, she runs up behind Sasuke crying and holds him back. She repeatedly asks him to stop. When Sasuke sees her tears, the cursed seal disappears from his body and he returns to normal. Dosu then offers him their scroll and offers them a deal. They must leave this battle in order to confirm something, but if they are ever to fight again, they will not run or hide. Before he leaves, Sakura demands to know what Orochimaru did to Sasuke, but he doesn’t respond. He can’t understand why Orochimaru would have told them to kill Sasuke after he gave him the cursed seal.

When the sound nins finally leave, InoShikaChou runs to the fallen’s aid as Sasuke sits, staring at his shaking hand.

Naruto Episode 32: Sakura Blooms! The Back of Determination

Rock Lee drops to his knees as Sakura looks on concerned. Her teammates still lie unconscious behind her. Lee cringes in pain as his ears bleed. Sound nin Dosu explains his technique. The attack wasn’t just physical. He uses sound to cause vibrations that affect the eardrum. Human eardrum will shatter at anything above 150 decibels. By applying a shock to the semicircular canals, an opponent will lose his sense of balance, so Lee won’t be able to move his body for a while. Feeling left out, Zaku decides to explain his technique used to control supersonic waves and air pressure. As Lee may recall, Zaku can send air into the ground creating a cushion, which is how he saved Dosu from Initial Lotus. Lee senses he’s in trouble and remembers Gai telling him to use technique when he must protect someone important.

Dosu attacks Lee to get to Sakura. She pulls out her kunai, and prepares a defence, but Lee throws himself in front of Dosu using Konoha Whirlwind. Dosu blocks and then attacks with sound. His arm amplifies the sound that is generated inside to its maximum, like a speaker. He can also use his chakra and join it into the target. Lee drops to the ground from the pain and lack of balance.

With Lee down, Dosu sets his sights on Sakura. She throws her kunai, but he easily blocks, as Team 10 watches from the sidelines. Shikamaru asks Ino if she’s just going to sit back and watch now that her childhood friend is in grave danger. Ino has a flashback to the two as children. She remembers Sakura asking her if she liked Sasuke. When the answer became apparent that she did as well, Sakura declared them rivals from that day forth. Again, Shikamaru asks her what to do. Ino has a moment of self doubt as Zaku blocks a kunai attack from Sakura. Sound nin Kin then grabs Sakura by the hair and holds her back as she encourages Zaku to kill Sasuke in front of her. Sakura cries in despair, wallowing in self pity until she snaps out of it and decides that it’s her turn to protect her friends.

As Zaku makes his way to Sasuke, Sakura takes her first real step towards becoming a nin. She pulls out her kunai and cuts her own hair, releasing her from Kin’s grasp. She understands now that Sasuke and Naruto have always protected her… always told her to stay back. She thinks back to the Zabuza fight, and how just now, Lee fought with his life to protect her. She decides it’s her turn to protect everyone else.

Sakura performs her seals to perform replacement technique. She runs at Zaku throwing several kunai. He uses Air Cutter to hurl them back at her. Sensing danger, Sakura stops and with another replacement technique, lunges at Zaku from above. He can’t believe she’d try yet another replacement technique and again throws his kunai at her. This time she fools him, is hit by the kunai, but gets close enough to hit him. She then pins him to the ground, preventing him from moving.

Ino watches the fight with additional memories. When Sakura was little, kids made fun of her big forehead. Ino gave her a ribbon as a sign of friendship and told her that kids pick on her because she hides her forehead. When she actually as her hair tied back, she’s cute. Ino then introduces Sakura to her friends. One day, Sakura announced to the group that he likes Sasuke. They aren’t surprised, as Sasuke is the most popular boy in school. She decides to grow her hair long because Sasuke likes girls with long hair.

Ino continues to watch as Zaku repeatedly hits Sakura until she releases her grasp. Team 10 then come to the rescue.

Naruto Episode 31: Platonic Thick Brows! I Will Protect You Until I Die

Orochimaru reveals his purpose to recruit followers to Anku. He taunts her for her interest in his new find, Sasuke, the perfect vessel to be his successor. He warns her that if she interferes in the exam, Leaf Village is finished.

Sakura watches over her teammates as they recover from their injuries. She vows not to fall asleep, but does. Naruto and Sasuke awaken, bringing tears to Sakura’s eyes. Suddenly, Orochimaru shows up, transforming into a snake head and attacks the boys. She awakens, startled from the nightmare.

Sakura hears a rustle from the bushes. It is only a squirrel. She throws a kunai to scare it off, not realizing that the Sound nins watching her placed an explosion tag on it. They decide to move closer.

Meanwhile, Rock Lee scouts out the forest. He spots 20 leaves falling to the ground and daydreams that if he can catch all 20, Sakura will like him. He catches all but one when he sees a squirrel with an explosion tag on him. He rushes to its aid.

Neji, meanwhile has found Team 10 hiding in the bushes. Knowing full well that Neji would never fight weak opponents like them without being challenged, Ino decides to flirt instead. Disgusted, Neji walks away, telling them that taking a scroll from cowards like them would only make him the laughing stock of his village.

The three sound nins ask Sakura to wake Sasuke up. She asks what they want. As the Sound nins get closer, they realize that Sakura threw her kunai to scare the squirrel to protect her trap. They fall into another one, but easily emerge unscathed. Luckily for Sakura, Rock Lee is ready to come to her rescue. He performs Leaf Spinning Wind to knock the sound nins out in mid attack. He then chooses to defend Sakura, vowing to protect her until his death. As Rock Lee realizes he is at a disadvantage against the three Sound nins, he gets serious and decides to use full power.

Meanwhile, Shikamaru and Ino discuss tactics for finding a weaker team. Shikamaru sarcastically suggests that the only team weaker than them is Naruto’s team. Ino immediately comes to the defense of Sasuke. Soon, Choji reports that Sasuke has been knocked out cold and Sakura’s fighting.

When Rock Lee doesn’t meet Neji and Tenten on time, they head out looking for him. They recall their training. Lee was the only one who mastered the task, Lotus. Once he mastered it, Gai-sensei declared it a forbidden jutsu. The technique releases the brain’s limiters on chakra, allowing the muscles to use multiplied super speed taijutsu. It puts an enormous strain on those muscles, and at 100% of full power, the muscles themselves would be destroyed. Normally, humans only use 20% of their potential. Thus, Lee is only allowed to use the technique under one condition - to protect a precious person.

Rock Lee attacks, using his bandages to capture Sound nin Dosu. He does Initial Lotus, to send both he and Dosu crashing to the ground, but Sound nin, Zaku, is able to save Dosu as Lee jumps out of the way. After exerting such energy, Lee’s exhausted body requires him to take defense for a while. Dosu uses the opportunity to use a Sound jutsu to offset Lee’s equilibrium. As Lee comes closer to defeat, Sakura becomes more and more concerned.

Naruto Episode 30: Revive, Sharingan! Finish Move - Fire Element, Dragon Fire Te

Sakura pleads with Sasuke to snap out of his stupor and fight. After a provocative vision of his brother, he is back in the game complete with visible sharingan. He turns to the Grass nin and attacks, hurling his kunai towards the nin. The nin counters and the two fight head to head. Sasuke uses his fire element, impressing the nin, who then realizes Sasuke can see his moves. Meanwhile, Anko searches the Forest of Death for her perpetrator.

Still engaged in battle, Sasuke jumps onto the nin, holding him as the two fall below. The nin hits head first, but melts as Sasuke realizes he’s just a replacement. With Sasuke off guard, the nin is able to strike. He knocks Sasuke to the ground to the dismay of Sakura, but Sasuke isn’t down for the count quite yet. His newest trick up his sleeve is a couple of explosive tags placed strategically on the back of the nin. When they ignite, Sasuke catches the nin off-guard and gets off Sharingan-Controlled Triple Windmill Blades to tie the nin to a tree with piano wire. He then uses Katon, Ryuuka no Jutsu (Fire Element, Dragon Fire Technique) to hit the nin hard. Sakura cheers his victory.

But the nin isn’t down for long before he uses a technique to paralyze the two. He offers congrats to Sasuke for using his Sharingan abilities so well for his age. With those abilities, Sasuke may even have more potential than his brother, Itachi. Finally, we learn the true identity of the nin - a super powerful Sound nin named Orochimaru. Pleased with how well the fight went, he tells Sasuke that if he wishes to see him again, he must survive this Exam with Orochimaru’s three Sound nin minions after him. Before he disappears, he extends his snake-like head to within Sasuke’s reach and biting him, plants a seal on Sasuke’s neck so that Sasuke will seek him for power. He then falls to the ground as Sakura tries to comfort him and Orochimaru disappears. She calls for Naruto, who still is unconscious and helplessly sits crying, holding the fallen Sasuke.

Orochimaru, meanwhile, implants himself in a tree to heal. Anko finds him and accuses him of being an extremely dangerous S-class wanted criminal. It is now her duty, as a former subordinate, to kill him. Anko does Hidden Snake Hands to attack and pull him out from his tree hiding place. She then binds his right hand to her left with a kunai and takes his left hand. She gets ready to sacrifice herself as she starts Dual Snake Destroyer, but Orochimaru appears behind her, taking off his mask. She throws a kunai at him, which he catches with two fingers and performs his own paralysis technique. She asks why he came - to assassinate Hokage-sama? He tells her he wants some of the outstanding ones of the village. As he speaks, Anko kneels in pain clutching an identical seal on her neck to the one Orochimaru just gave Sasuke previously. He speaks coldly to her, bragging of his find in Sasuke. He then disappears, warning Anko not to interfere with the Exam or he will be back for Konoha village.

Anko sits alone. She decides that Hokage-sama must be informed, but as she walks, a group of tigers spot her. Luckily, two ANBU members finally arrive and ward off the pack. Anko falls to the ground clutching her neck. The ANBU members notice her seal has surfaced and realize that Orochimaru is in the area. They offer to take her to Hokage-sama. She refuses, requesting they bring Hokage-sama to the tower.

As Sakura sits alone, watching over the unconscious boys, Orochimaru’s three Sound minions find her. They have been ordered to strike Uchiha Sasuke come daybreak. But if the other two get in the way, they will kill them…

Naruto Episode 29: Naruto Strikes Back! Im Not Going to Run Away!

Recapping the drama of the last episode, Naruto is almost eaten by a large snake but escapes using Shadow Replication, while a powerful Grass nin attacks Sasuke and Sakura. The two narrowly escape as Sasuke stabs himself in the leg to break the fear spell. The Grass nin, however, chases his prey, as Sasuke sinks deeper and deeper into his fears. Soon, Naruto shows up to help.

Sasuke warns Naruto to run, but Naruto’s not one to retreat - especially without a fight. Naruto is also slightly annoyed that the Grass nin sent that huge snake to gobble him up previously. Sasuke, however, believes this nin is well above their levels and they should run before they are killed. In a moment of clarity, he decides the only way to survive is to bargain with the Grass nin - their scroll for their lives. Naruto thinks Sasuke has lost his mind at this point and catches the scroll in mid toss before the Grass nin can catch it. Naruto then punches Sasuke angrily. Not only does he refuse to give up, but he accuses Sasuke of being a fake because the Sasuke he knows isn’t such a coward. He mentions there’s no guarantee that this guy will let them go even if they do given him the scroll. Naruto then rushes the Grass nin, who summons his snake.

Outside the Forest of Death, a group of men find three dead bodies. Their faces are gone as if they were melted off. The men immediately inform Anko, who comes over to investigate. At the scene, they learn that the dead ninjas were Chuunin Exam registrants from the Hidden Village of Grass. Anko has her suspicions that this might be the work of ‘him’ and immediately asks for the pictures of the applicants. Once she sees their true faces, she recognizes the one of them that handed her back her kunai right before the Forest of Death phase began. Now worried, Anko immediately sends the inspectors to inform Hokage-sama and requests for a mobilization of at least two ANBU squads to the Forest of Death. She’s going in after these guys.

Inside, the Grass nin charges Naruto. During the exchange, Naruto’s demon fox spirit is unleashed and he lets lose on the snake. The Grass nin counters to give him enough time to attack Sasuke. Fortunately, Naruto is able to stop the snake just in time. Sasuke remains almost paralyzed, but after a few taunts from Naruto, he remembers a similar situation where he saved Naruto. Naruto again repeats that this can’t be the Sasuke he knows.

As Naruto tries to snap Sasuke out of his daze, the Grass nin picks up Naruto with his tongue and seals his demon fox spirit using Gogyo Fuuin (Five Element Seal).. Sakura screams to Sasuke to help Naruto, who transforms back to his original self and is now unconscious. The Grass nin then takes Naruto’s scroll and tosses him away. Sakura throws a kunai to prevent Naruto from falling and then again screams at Sasuke, who is still paralyzed by fear, to join this battle.

Sasuke is still trapped in his thoughts. He envisions his brother taunting him - to hate him… to run away. Finally, he is able to snap out of it and prepares to fight.
