"Most powerful" does mean something. It doesn't mean that you should buy it but if we just stop measuring power & only measure fps per dollar then how will the industry move forward?
@BLiTZ_156: I think that's more to do with the subject matter. If you're shooting aliens in heavy armour then you don't mind having to take a few shots with your laser gun to get a kill. When it's a dude in a hoodie & your realistic AK47 doesn't splatter his brains all over the wall in one shot, that's a more dissonant theme. Everything else in the game tries to ground you in realism & that one thing stands out.
Personally that wasn't something that put me off because I play more RPGs than straight up shooters but I can see how some would find that it ruins the immersion of the experience.
@Starkzard: Hey, shooting & doing missions is only like 90% of the game. Just because they aren't good, it doesn't mean the game isn't good. ...wait. What?
Numerical ratings mean less than the content of the review & from my time in the closed beta, I'd agree that The Division is definitely okay. If you want Diablo with guns then this a fun game that will keep you occupied, if you're looking for a competent shooter or an actual RPG where you can roleplay a character & make decisions then you'll probably find it lacking. It'll still be fun for a few hours but it will get old fast if you're not into the MMO grind.
This review really sounded like a hype piece. I know Gamespot is constantly trying to fight off allegations of publishers buying reviews & this doesn't help.
Essentially the game is a loot grind. It's Diablo with guns. Trying to hype it up & sell it any other way will leave players disappointed. I played in the closed beta & the game seemed quite playable but looked like it would fail to hold my interest for more than a few hours. I can see how plenty of people would like this game & I wouldn't want to take that away from them but it's not for me.
@BLiTZ_156: I think a lot of people were expecting more of a shooter than an RPG.
Also, this is more of an MMO Light or an ARPG. True RPGs allow you to actually roleplay the character, make choices in conversation trees & not just follow the single path the story takes you down.
@wookiegr: PC Perspective did some tests with Ashes of the Singularity. Nvidia & AMD cards do work together but frame timings are pretty messed up. I would be hesitant to run the same GPU at different clock speeds, let alone cards from different manufacturers.
I'm looking forward to the days where we can just add the latest GPU to our machine rather than replacing the old one but DX12 may not provide the efficiency & full scaling that some were hoping for.
@nl_skipper: I have the same processor but 2 970s in SLI. The SLI doesn't work in DX12 mode though so basically it performs much worse for me.
Ultra textures at 1440P goes past the 4GB VRAM limit & causes stuttering so I was excited to see how DX12 would be able to utilise the entire 8GB of VRAM from both cards. Nope, not yet.
@ef56sd: They should absolutely keep making big AAA games but if they're going to throw some extra projects in after the writing team has finished their job than it could be something cool in addition to their bigger budget titles.
