having it lay on a carpet is probably fine, but i actually put mine on a cardboard box so that it's not on the floor. I just don't want dust and lint and stuff getting into my wii. I also cover it when I'm not using it, lol... I know, that's a little crazy but I like to be extra cautious.
First of all, my Wii makes these clicking sounds when ever it's loading things off of the disc... Kind of a chk, chk, chk sound. Is that normal? It doesn't do it much in games like Mario Galaxy or Twilight Princess, but both Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Bros (especially Smash Bros) do it a lot. For example, in Smash during the Character selection screen, every time I click on a different character, the Wii makes a series of clicking sounds. The gamecube made the same kind of sounds when loading but it was much quieter then this.
Another question: Is there any benefit to putting your Wii on its side so the disk drive is horizontal and not vertical? I know the Wii was designed to be vertical; after all it comes with a freaking stand. But, I've heard of a lot of people laying their wii horizontally to prevent complications with the wiis disk drive... Also does it matter if I lay the wii on it's side on carpet, instead of a solid surface?

I think that's normal.. my wii is relatively new and it does the same thing, esp. for smash brothers. I think maybe it's bc the smash bros disc is a 2 layer disc.
as for your other question.. i've always had my wii horizontal. i've heard stories about the ps2 having problems and messing up the discs when it's vertical, so i automatically put my wii horizontal, which i feel is a more natural way to have it. i havent heard anyone have problems with it vertically tho, but mine will always be horizontal.
Garbage because all games are garbage except for Earthbound, Mario RPG, Majora's Mask, and also Donkey Kong 64 :evil:Helen_Mirren
I agree with the DK64... why isn't that out already!?!?
most of the games on the VC are crap... but they do have some good ones (the donkey kong countrys, super mario world, super mario bros 3)... but i'm still waiting for DK64 and SNES mario kart... 2 great games that you would have thought would be out already. i'm not going to 'strike'... but those are the only 2 games i really want that i don't have, so i won't download anything until they are out.
also, has anyone heard what games are out tomorrow?
The Wii should cost you $250 plus whatever the tax is in CA. They are not easy to find though, it took me a few weeks and I finally was able to get one... and only because I got really lucky. If you can't find them, they're going on eBay for like $400-$500, but I would just wait until you come across one than spend that much money on it.
Also, check out this website. http://www.nowinstock.net/news/buying-a-wii-a-beginners-guide/
It's a beginner's guide to what you should get with the Wii (the nunchuk, another controller, etc.) It'll help you with exactly what you need. The games are all about $50 each, unless they are used or have been out for awhile.
Quick question,
Playing brawl using a gamecube controller... how do you power up a smash attack? i've just been hitting the 'c' pad... but I have no idea how to power it up.
