@astrokidwell: You're making an awful lot of assumptions. There are plenty of things in gaming I don't enjoy, and I'm not suggesting legislating against any except this one. This one DOES harm people, and it harms the industry.
Loot boxes are addiction-based. Even pay-to-win is somewhat addiction based, though to a much lesser extent. But pay-to-win also hurts the fair nature of multiplayer gaming. So frankly, I think they both have to go.
@astrokidwell: I'm 100% okay with microtransactions and lootboxes for cosmetic items, as well as paid DLC for additional, meaningful content. But I'm 100% against pay-to-win, pay-for-progression, and any other balance altering paid purchase in multiplayer games, because it impacts the fair nature of the competition. If you have to pay to remain on an equal footing, it's a pretty crappy choice to make.
Honestly, I'd rather we just legislate lootboxes and pay-to-win mechanics right out of our games. They're a plague that ruin the gaming environment; we should never have let them progress as far as they have.
Pretty soon streaming content will be just as fragmented as cable/satellite. The whole problem with cable/satellite was the fragmentation and bundle costs, and the greed that caused it. Seems that greed is now seeping into the streaming market.
I'm not a big MCU guy myself, but I did watch the reveal with others who are. They were real hyped leading into it, and although they tried to still be enthusiastic about it, I could tell they were disappointed. Not sure what they were expecting. Probably to have the likenesses from the movies and maybe even have the actors do the voice-acting.
@cboye18: Yeah, that concerned me. She said there wouldn't be loot boxes or "pay-to-win" microtransactions, but I've always found devs and publishers have a creative understanding of what pay-to-win entails. For instance, many think that if an item is grindable in-game, that being allowed to pay money for it to bypass that grind is not pay-to-win. Another example: XP boosters. Frankly, I think both of these constitute pay-to-win.
