after half-life 2 came out, everyone was clamouring for a sequel. you released episodes, the fans were appeased, but they only fueled the desire for a sequel.
it's been how long? 6 years since episode 2.
a portion of the fans has already given up and moved away and a series like half-life won't draw in new current fans mostly looking for flashy action and multiplayer content.
you waited too long, i'd actually be pleased if you released it and it flopped. teasing the fanbase is fine, but it's borderline arrogant to think that you can just release it now and expect success.
the definition of pirating is stealing potential revenue from the developer.
of course pirating causes losses in sale. instead of paying a price, people get it for free and the dev gets exactly zip.
just because AC still sold on PC doesn't mean pirating doesn't cause a loss in sales. i mean, you're thinking so one-dimensionally i'm literally starting to think you have some sort of mental handicap. it simply means that the sales were higher than the losses from pirating.
those petitions don't mean a thing. 500 000 people signed, because you can do it in less than a minute and it doesn't oblige you to pay everything.
now if they it so that you had to deposit 50 bucks when signing the petition. you get your money back if Rockstar doesn't decide to release it, but you can't withdraw your pledgefor no reason.
now THOSE would be credible numbers.
look at operation rainfall. hundreds of thousands signed to get xenogears released here, a fraction of those people actually bought it.
this is news? i'm an avid console gamer, primarily due to money restraints, but even i see that PC's have been outpowering consoles for a little less than a decade.
based on one screen and some concept art? they haven't even really begun development yet and you're already assuming you know what it's going to be? that's just presumptuous.
why would it be the highest quality version? Wii U has the same specs as current-gen, plus devs have more experience developing for current-gen. they'll be equal, at least.
