Interesting thread... How many people with $20 Goodwill PCs are running 20 year old software today? Anyone? Hmmmm.....Sentinel672002
12 year old software you mean?
and thrift stores dont sell computers for $20. ive seen crappy ones from like 2000 that they want $200 out of. you would hav to PAY me to take that crap.

i bet right now the TP is roughly.....13 years old or very imature for his age.

ok, not everyone games, correct? but companies still have to make cards for those people too, yes? for this reason, nvidia made the 8400 to market to those who don't care about extreme graphics or any other gpu demanding programs.

it could be argued that they were made for those without much money so they could play games on at least low settings, but they don't make lower end xbox360s. im sure however, if the xbox360 was a critical part in doing things such as playback HD movies on your PC (via blu-ray/HDdvd drives) that they WOULD make a lower end version just for that. this is not the case for xbox360s, however, it is the exact case for PCs. THUS, the low end cards, the 8400s, were created.

they were not meant for gaming, imo. they were meant for everything that requires DX10/HD playback, besides gaming.

[QUOTE="blazethe1"]

i bought vista home premium when it came out. i liked it for a while, but finally decided after about 4 months of use that XP was just more basic.
i didn't like my computer idling at 600+mb of ram usage. i didn't like having to use CMD to take ownership of Program Files just to modify anything, including gadgets. ill admit there wasn't much support for it at the time, but XP to Vista really is the 98 to XP.
and there are still people who use 98 for things such as video editing. the more basic the OS, the better it runs. XP on today's "Vista ready" hardware runs as well as 98 on the "XP ready" hardware from 6/7 years ago.

Windows Aero is totally unnecessary. you have to admit, microsoft was trying to throw something out there that would look attractive like mac. but mac already has that market, so windows needs to back up and go down the other road. while mac focuses on vanity, windows will be there with efficiency.

I disagree, aero and the serach features is the only reason to get vista over xp. the side bar is prety cool and it nice having thumbnail of each window in alt tab and when you mouse over on the task bar

.....so why do you disagree again? finding a feature "pretty cool" or "nice" does not make them necessary

imo, dont bother with any of the nvidia 8000 series or the ati 2000 series. the first run of dx10 cards was messy.

when i bought the vista home prem. upgrade in the store back at release it came with a piece of paper with a link to order the 64bit disk. it was $10 and i had to type in my registration code, but they shipped it and i hav both 32bit and 64bit home premium disks. turned out i never installed 64bit, but i think its an upgrade disk from vista32bit only. could be wrong though.

the disclaimer they put on the OEM OS disks you get from newegg is so that companies like Dell dont buy the installation disk and preinstall it on 5+ computers then ship them to the customers without putting the disk with them in order to save money. this doesn't really apply to you. you hav a Vista installation disk, use it to install vista.

the only reason i could see sending it back to newegg is because it's vista =D

i'd say around 1100, it's a good setup and with a RAM and hard drive upgrade, it'll be a solid computer for many years to come.

dude. megaman.

btw, has anyone heard of The Protomen? they're pretty rockin'.

their first and only CD tells the story of megaman and protoman (all original material)
and their second CD is an NES remix. all of the original songs if they were on NES (with some bass added for funkability i suppose)

check em out.
