Ya they're called drivers. Since you're a "noob" i assume you didn't build your PC. Did it come with a ton of other disks? Normally they just stick the default drivers on XP restoration disk, but maybe they didn't. And if you have changed hardware since you got it, the restoration disk obviously won't be installing the right drivers.

If you have another computer hand, you could go to the distributor's website and look up the model of your computer. First off you want to find your networking drivers specific to your networking card so that you can get on the internet using your computer. This way, you don't have to keep transferring files from a seperate computer.

Once you have your networking drivers, do your video card drivers and sound card drivers, followed by anything else you have that's not working.

is mistaken for some sort of command that is disallowed and thus can't be used.

at least it was this way in the GH:Aerosmith forum.

When i tried to put in GH: Classic Rock it says:

You have encountered a forbidden .html error, and have may used one or more of the forbidden words while trying to include a link in your message. There are certain words, including 'class' and 'style', that we do not allow while creating links in your messages because they are a doorway into several js exploits. Unfortunately, if you should have words that have 'class' in them (e.g., classify, classic, etc), they will also be forbidden. We are looking to find the best solution for this problem, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I played everything on Very High at 1600x1200, but I don't think that was a major contributing factor in my belief that Crysis is one of the best games of the year. While it looks amazing, it plays amazing as well.

The AI is astounding - the best since F.E.A.R - and it facilitates a large style of approaches. You can play the game as a stealther or as a run n gunner, and the AI will facilitate it in the way you would expect it to. If you go Rambo style, they flank, use grenades, advance and retreat and generally give you some fantastic firefights.

If you go all guerilla on them, they patrol, search, panic and poop their little girly panties. Just like you'd expect.

The game also has a shifting scenario - something that almost no FPS games besides HL2 and Escape From Butcher Bay have ever managed to pull off. Even the very best games stagnate, because you're just doing the same thing over and over. In Crysis, things don't have the opportunity to stagnate. Just as you start getting used to the jungle environment, you're floating around in zero G. Before you can say W T F you're in a xenoformed jungle and everything gets crazy. Stuff like that keeps games fresh, and after playing generic_run_n_gun_01 for years, it's a breath of fresh air to play a game that realises that FPS games need things mixing up now and then.

The game also has some amazing set pieces. The opening of the level Assault impressed me more than just about anything I've seen since Call of Duty 2. The game also does an amazing job of making the player feel like he is not a one man army, but that he is the elite technological speartip of an actual army. I hate feeling like some invincible supersoldier because I can carry 10 healthpacks or something. Having a supersuit might not be much less of a contrivance, but it feels much better to me. And occasionally interacting with other soldiers really, really makes me feel like there is a full blown skirmish waging on the island, and that I'm just a cog in the machine - a particularly important cog, but what do you expect when you're wearing some trousers that cost fifty billion dollars?

Crysis blew me away, and not just because of how great it looks.

probably the only time ive ever said this about any post on this site, but i 110% agree with everything you just said.

if you already cleared cmos then ignore this, but if you can get all the way to windows boot, just press the key to get into bios before windows boots (DEL for me) and change it back in there.

ok, i did not know about that ATI crysis hotfix. i dled it and noticed other things (such as strange coloring of text of links) were fixed as well. i made sure everything was at default/application settings except super-sampling (which i have to turn on) and i just ran 3dmark06 again and got 9305 marks.

sm2 - 3900
sm3 - 5396
cpu - 1748

i probably should update my bios but cant right now. im about to leave town. thanks for your help guys, ill resume with trying to fix this once i get back in town. thanks again.

Wait a minute, did you say you "optimised" settings in CCC? Did you happen to force AA instead of checking the "Let Application Decide" box?

If you forced AA (or other details) through the CCC, then that may explain the bad 3DMark06 score (even then, you should be getting way more higher than that).

Wesker776

the first time i ran it i got 8700 or so, then i turned super-sampling on and got 8830. thats pretty much the only thing i changed. i experimented with it by turning everything up to see how crysis ran and it did worse, so i put it all back at default and turned catAI on.
