@almightyduck: "when they refuse to acknowledge the pain that Joel puts Ellie through"
On this part we probably disagree... Besides the lies, wich are obviously bad, all I see from Joel towards Ellie is love. She may not like some decisions he made for her, but at that point everyone was making decisions for her.
I´m saying this because I have a feeling you may think that what Joel did in the end of the first game is wrong, while I do believe its the only thing a parent could do. Or a human being...
And that action, based on love, is the thing that (in part) saves Abby in the end...
@jega: On an easy note... a review that is not quite a review... Girlfriend Review... I never heard about these guys until TLOU... But at least they understood the story.
In the end, it's irrelevant which people reviews games, I have my own opinion, that´s why I don´t debate games I didn't play.
And that´s why I "hate" Angry Joe review, because I can accept people disliking the game. And I already found good people who don´t like the story of the game. With good points and great argumentation. Sure, not many people, but they exist.
Angry Joe don't understand the game or the story... and that is huge disappointment. I know he is not the bright person out there, but he used to have a middle bar... In this case, it was easy to please the haters... more views and all that crap...
Yes... I really love the place were Ellie and Abby are right now. Both girls (after all the misery they suffered) have an open ending. Both are able to move on with their lives. To where they are going? I don´t know, but they left behind their burden.
"An empty place without family / friends / all on her own / nothing is truly resolved."
The family is still there (if she chooses to go back), in a different way, but still there. Jackson will welcome her again. But most importantly, it will be her choice.
Also... "nothing is truly resolved"? Are you joking? She found peace, she accepted his love (Joel) and released herself from the pain of his death. She regain her soul and found some kind of redemption letting Abby go and saving a child in the process...
So she is a place way better than the place she starts (after Joel death). So for me that was evolution. We saw the worst of Ellie, we saw her darkness... but in the end we receive a bit of the light in her heart... And that is great for me...
@jega: "I think he is a great video game reviewer / critique for a lack of a better word."
And that's fair... I was a long time fan of his, not by his critic value, but because of fun. Otherwise, I would have left long before the suicide squad review... But the thing is simple, when this game was released I expected at worse a fair review.
Well... You can´t have a fair review when you mind is already set before the game release. And that was obvious by previous videos. If that is a critic for you, go forward... my standard can go that low... no matter the fun I was provided. So I left, and ironically found great critic reviews on the way...
@jega: "I didnt quit but decided to consume the content in a different way..."
Sorry.. That's quitting. Without suffer the journey of Abby you will never understand her.
"I disagree with the ending..."
I'm on the opposite side... To see the old Ellie again was priceless, and seeing her finding peace... uf... it was deep.
"I had build strong empathy towards Ellie and that made it impossible for me to enjoy this journey of hers."
I didn't like her journey, but that made appreciate even more her destination... Ellie is by far the character I love most in videogames... and to beat "The boss", "Snake" and "Big Boss"... its not easy.
