My specs first, and then on to my question. Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe nForce 570-SLI AMD X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX OC+ @ 810/1200 4GB OCZ SLI-Ready DDR2 PC2-6400 Now, I know it's not exactly state-of-the-art anymore nowadays, but I've been noticing that my computer's performance is not what it should be, especially CPU-wise. games like CoD4, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Empire: Total War, Dawn of War 2, and Company of Heroes should all run beautifully according to reccommended system specs, but I get crappy performance in all of these. the lag/slowdown experienced is more tied to my processor than anything, that much I can tell. but what I can't tell is why? I have the AMD dual core optimizer, and the most recent processor drivers (I hope, it's been a while) and still my games stutter and choke as if my CPU cannot handle everything that is going on, especially in CPU-intense games such as Empire: Total War and Medieval 2: Total War. I did a little bit of reading up on the subject, and applied almost every small work-around/fix I could find on the internet, including disabling cool n' quiet in the BIOS. is there any way I can find out if my processor is working up to it's full potential? I can never tell if my processor is really working as hard as it should be, and I've heard many reasons for this, including overheating and poor ventilation. I have not done a thing to my CPU as far as overclocking or tweaking goes, the heatsink/fan is the one that came with the processor. and for that matter, I can never get an accurate temperature reading from any program, as it doesn't recognize my motherboard for some reason. is there anything I can do about any of these problems? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out here.
The system requirements for World of Warcraft: PC: Processor: 800MHz or higher CPU. RAM: 256Mb or more. Video: GeForce 2 or better Hard Drive Space: 3Gb or more available. DirectX 9.0 or above. Mac: Operating System: MacOS X 10.3 (Panther) or better. Processor:1.0GHz or higher G4 or G5. RAM: 512Mb or higher, DDR RAM recommended. Video: ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 64Mb VRAM or more.
I used to play it at school, as it was one of the few games that actually ran on those computers... >.> I don't know about now, but a few months ago there were still quite a few people playing, at least during the middle of the day when I played. never had trouble finding a server.
well my graphics card runs at about 58 Celsius under max load with the OC settings listed above and the fan running at 70%, so it shouldn't be my graphics card. I have Cool n' Quiet disabled in the Bios, so I know my CPU never underclocks itself, not sure about the temps there, I've left everything stock in that department. I adjusted the page file to 2560 initial and 4096 maximum, haven't noticed a difference in performance. checked background processes, nothing out of the ordinary is running taking up too much resources (that damned nvidia firewall can hog up to 100mb if I don't keep an eye on it) I regularly use CCleaner and AdvancedSystemCare Pro 3.2, everything checked out clean. guess I'm out of options, eh?
I have checked for backround processes and there are none to be found... and the steam forums link ToraPilot gave me was of no use... will I really have to resort to formatting my hard drive?
For the past couple of weeks now, all of the PC games I play (CoD4, Medieval 2 Total War, Empire Total War, Dawn of War 2, Red Orchestra) have this ever so slight but oh-so-annoying lag where the framerate freezes for a split second, every second. I can follow it with the clock on my wall and it's driving me insane. my PC hardware specs are as follows: AMD X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX @ 810c/1200m w/latest drivers (185.85) 4GB OCZ SLI-Ready DDR2 RAM Corsair 650w PSU on some occasions, such as medieval 2 and empire total war, I get a windows error icon saying that the virtual memory minimum is too low. I did a little research and took the recommended steps to prevent that issue from happening (adjust page file memory, cleaning/defragging HDD), but this does not alleviate my problem. can someone tell me what's going on with my computer, and maybe how to fix this? it's almost getting to the point where I cant play games because of the sheer annoyance. any help would be appreciated, thanks

but, coming from personal experience, the 9800GTX+ card is much better, for only 20 more dollars. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339
