I thought exactly like this, but years ago. It didn't make any sense to me, all the people being all of a sudden addicted to anime and now want to learn japanese, date japanese girls, or lack of thereof, japanese girls in avatar, japanese girls in signatures. I was puzzled, and then I just, what the heck, it's too weird, it's too sudden but it's their life, their drama, and they choose to like it not me, so I should just respect that.
