@planetgloom: that game was canceled almost a year ago, what are you talking about "late last year"? I personally agree with that cancelation. I expected a better game from Lionhead than what was fable legends, I doubt I would've green lit that game....well they probably pitched something totally different than what the game turned out to be....or they probably were trying to do what Rare were planning with SoT but in the fable universe.
@Blackened_Halo: Yeah we don't know the circumstances that caused the deal to fall apart. Maybe PG wanted more money which means Xbox would have less more for other projects, which knows. But it's definitely a reason he said that.
@jimbobimbo: could be more money for other IPs. Could also be the game wasn't in a good state and would take additional years to get done. Do you think it would be good for Xbox gamers to get a half baked game after years of development?
All I know is, scalebound was announced way before nier automata but nier is finished and why scalebound is not.....what did PG do with the money? Didn't they put enough people on the project? Did PG want more money to finish the game which means less money for other projects?
I would like to hear some explanations too but ultimately we would only be getting one side of the story.
@beantownsean: I mentioned pirating because Microsoft has a better chance of securing their store under windows 10 than they would under their preview OSs.
about the Microsoft stamp of approval, you pay for an exclusivity period, one year is standard practice doesn't matter the size of game or studio. the terms of the deals could differ in any which way from platforms to which stores to the length of time for which stores etc.
@beantownsean: store in windows 7 and 8.1 built on win32 would've been pirated to dead. also, quantum break and rise of the tomb raider are not Microsoft IPs.
and about the store, version 1 of any product is never complete...you iterate, you learn, you improve. remember, steam wasn't what it is now, it was horrible back in the day.
@CrusaderForever: I understand what you're saying but let me ask, did you lose anything? were you swindled out of your money? did they sell you a broken game or one that didn't have the features they said it would have?
@XAF1: I believe they sold the Mech assault IP. however, I think Phil said it not too long ago, something like, if consumers don't buy their New IPs it would be difficult to make new ones. if you're taking risks and you know it's not going to resonate well with your audience I would believe you have a decision to make.
@Rambolike: before you say all that can you think why would they cancel such a game? why you platinum games finish Nier Automata before Scalebound even though Scalebound was announced a year before, does it have something to Microsoft being a western country or Square Enix not? did Microsoft pile on more stuff to the game and if yes, what else could they possible have added since the game had a little multiplayer and good single player, did the vision change? did Microsoft wanted a bigger multiplayer interactions or did PG want to scale back on the multiplayer aspect (since it was only for boss fights)? blaming everything on Microsoft is pretty one sided.
I would cancel too if in the end i'm going to lose. what about you?
