I remember when people were going nuts over the Dead Island trailer. To the point that they actually hyped the game. I on the other hand did not. I saw no reason to even be remotely interested in Dead Island based on that trailer and couldn't understand why people were going crazy over it. It showed absolutely nothing of what the game would play like, was not an established that you're aware of how it plays and it wasn't even from an amazing established developer. How people hyped it based on that trailer is beyond me. If a trailer doesn't show gameplay or isn't from an established franchise I'm aware of then I never get excited over a trailer. Like I said if it's an established franchise then I can get excited if it doesn't show gameplay because I know what to expect anyway. Case in point: GTA V. But a new IP? Need gameplay to get excited.
I tried to make this comment have paragraphs, but for some reason Gamespot never lets me do that. Anyway here's my wall of text comment. Oh god. Not another one of these articles. Jesus, do people actually want the death of dedicated gaming handhelds? It sure as hell sounds like it. No smartphone will EVER come close to matching what dedicated gaming devices like 3DS and Vita offer. The majority of this article was nitpicking over little things, but the latter part of this article is what really bugs me. Smartphones will never replace proper gaming handhelds. Ever stop to think that maybe there's gamers out there that actually want a handheld that delivers the console experience? A dedicated gaming device will never replace a smartphone, and one would be a fool to think it ever would. By the same token, a smartphone will never replace dedicated gaming handhelds, and it's just as foolish to think that. I find it interesting that you chose to include GTA 3 as an example for your oh so amazing app store. Have you actually tried playing GTA 3 on iphone? I have. Guess what? It sucks. Why? Because the controls kill it. It's a great game, but without physical buttons a proper console style game like that is unplayable. Not to mention the fact smartphones don't have physical copies of games. I like to have physical copies of my games, boxed and all. I'll pay those prices for my 3DS and Vita games, thanks.
In the Modnation Racers section of this article Gamespot need to change the word greatest to most popular. No way in hell is Mario Kart the best kart racer around. Most popular definitely, but not the best. It hasn't been the best kart racer on the market since the SNES. Crash Team Racing destroyed it back in the day, and Modnation Racers is the superior kart racer today.
At first I got a Vice City vibe, which is awesome. Then it moved on and game me some San Andreas vibes, which is also awesome. It showed Vinewood, which indicates at least part of San Andreas again. It showed mountains and open spaces which makes me very happy. The freeway indicates there will be multiple cities like San Andreas had, even if the cities themselves aren't all directly taken from San Andreas. It showed a jet and planes. How could anybody be disappointed with this? It looks like it'll have a massive a varied map again, and if the jet fighter is any indication the crazy fun will be back.
