Yes, indeed. Personally - and I might add also, most regrettably - SqEnix is the worst of these offenders. What happened with FFXIV was an utter embarrassment and they don't at least have the decency to admit to their fans (who've stuck by them for years despite the utter trash they've put out since their glory days) to what they're doing - putting out a less than mediocre product only to try to cash in on the name of the franchise.
You're right. Bad idea to release the console. Instead, release countless add-ons like with the Genesis. First, Wii U-V, then the U-W, then U-X (not for kids though =P), U-Y, and finally Wii U-Z. Hook them all up together and make it look like the console is on life support! ^_~
I love seeing a company take responsibility over its poor decisions rather than shifting blame elsewhere. Nintendo, thank you for being a breath of fresh air in an industry where companies are often more willing to put the blame on 'piracy,' the users, release windows, DRM or who knows what else rather than analyze their own (in)actions.
@ACWH @OddityInfinitas Totally agreed. That's been a huge beef for me because of the false claim that somehow reselling games leads to greater server stress. How much space could a stats file possibly consume? 100KB? Simple solution: delete inactive accounts after 6-12 months. Fix'd.
@SERGE_Let Actually, at first, PONG was its own console - game cartridges didn't exist yet. You'd have a console that was exclusively programmed to play one game. Yikes! -_-" @LindBergh2007 I believe that title would fit the Dreamcast better than it would the Saturn.
