I bought CSS last year with Gmod and I don't particularly understand the appeal.
I've rage uninstalled it 3 times and I think I'm at a point where I've given up. I've really tried with it, I always give games as much of a chance as I can stand before making conclusions. As others have said, new players basically stand no chance. I hate how twitch it is. I'm sure if I was to stick to it I could adapt but the aiming feels like a complete joke to me, I don't understand how to hit anything without crouching still (which is a deathwish). About the only gun I can be decent with is a shotgun, but that's only useful in the closed maps. I stand zero chance in any outdoor or really open combat, the accuracy of the guns feels completely random to me and I honestly hate how the guns feel. The most frustrating part for me is getting enough for a good weapon only to get my ass killed instantly. I've also been killed a few times while still buying weapons on some maps (Dust was the main one if I remember correctly), which I think is a joke of level design (Almost as awful as MW2 and it's camp-friendly designs). There should be no line of sight between the other side of the freaking map and my spawn.
Honestly, I find TF2 to be the infinitely better game. I was able to pick it up and become decent within a few hours once I figured out how some of the weird weapons work, and the game has a cool style and sense of humour. CSS to me is just a 1999 shooter sprinkled in 2004 graphics with a ridiculously steep learning curve. I liked some of the servers, but the guns? I can't work them, and I don't think being able to aim straight is something I'm willing to actually put work into.
tl;dr - Not a particularly bad game, but picking it up in 2011 is certainly way past the point where the game will have nothing for newcomers.

Ah quit your whining and try some more! :P It takes time in order to understand the usage of primary secondary weapons. Simply spraying an M4/AK is not going to get you anywhere. As for the crouching, it's a matter of preference. I usually don't crouch whenever I'm killing opponents The game is really strict towards noobs, hense why you see a lot of 5-25 (Etc) scores. Games like COD, KZ, and the modern FPS games today are extremely dumbed down just to help newbs.
Might wanna check this :P

I think there is NO skill just that you know the maps well compared to the noobs,so you know where they will be,walk from etc :D
