My 40 GB non-slim model did the same thing a few weeks before it got the yellow light of death. My slim I purchased last fall though is whisper quiet as well.

Well i dont actually use my fat for games, because the BR drive died a while ago out of warranty so i just use it for streaming movies. Its been that noisy for months now so i'm not sure if its indicitive that a larger issue is on the way (YLOD).
