@Eagleheart1980: Ah! Damn phone! I must have been hacked by EA because that was most definitely supposed to say “would probably be excited”. I feel so violated :(. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
@lonewolf1044: I completely agree, always online is not what’s best for the consumer. I’m from a small town, if I’m at my parents (whom don’t have Internet) I’m screwed if I want to play this. There are still people out there that either have terrible internet, or none at all; so the “all inclusive” gaming industry just basically says piss on you for living in that area.
Another real issue arises in when I travel for my job, I land in places that DO NOT tolerate gaming systems being connected to their internet. This is a time when games really help pass the time since I’m away from home, and my options just continue to get limited with all these only online titles.
@darshie76: I definitely feel the same on COD in regards to everyone just running their own way which is why I’m drawn more to Battlefield (though I rarely play it anymore).
You’re absolutely right though, straight up non-grind affairs are becoming a rarity anymore. Hopefully this business model of live services will get over saturated and slow down in the near future. So long as Last of Us, Wolfenstein, Gears of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Witcher, Dark Souls, etc. continue to thrive there’s always a case and point to keep making such gems.
@darshie76: Uh, not lately. Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Battlefield Bad Company 2 I had good memories of. I can’t really think of any current gen games with a great matchmaking system. Battlefield 1 seemed okay at the start, but it’s been so long since I’ve played it consistently that I won’t try to defend it. I’ve definitely seen some B.S. with the newest COD; you dominate and then get dominated, rarely is it ever close.
This is a pretty mucked up situation. Unless their match making is top notch, new players are going to get wrecked by the seasoned players who already unlocked these star cards. I don’t know that a big enough player base has stuck around to keep such match making possible.
