[QUOTE="bronxxbombers"]1. Checkpoint races 2. 60 dollar games 3. Crappy manuals. Back in the PS2 days, manuals were good. Now they suck!4. Fanboys 5. Less and less 1st party games.FragTycoon

I just wanted to touch on this a bit.

I hate the first 2-3 pages that tell you how to start a game, operate your controller or what HP is.

and that's pretty much half of the entire manual.

iyo.. of course.

  1. ESRB.
  2. Halo 2 -- Yes, it was pretty cool online at the time. But now, thanks to its popularity, the biggest companies are pumping their fortunes into games that follow the same protocol as Halo 2: online MP is the focus, the campaign sucks, you can only hold a few weapons, a serious tone, the military elite, and regenerating health. Examples: Gears of War 1 & 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Modern Warfare 1 & 2, Frontlines, Section 8, Red Faction: Guerilla, The Conduit, and many, many more. No, that outline isn't necessarily bad--until it becomes flooded and generic, which is now the case.
  3. Peter Molyneux. How emberassing.
  4. Wii. Now everyone has to make a crappy replica.
  5. Escort missions. They always suck.

[QUOTE="captain_diego"][QUOTE="-GeordiLaForge-"]Halo was definitely much more influential. There was a time when every house or apartment that I went to had a Halo multiplayer game in progress. It was the first console FPS done right, and it's still the best FPS ever IMO. And this is coming from a PC gamer who was playing first person shooters while most people were playing Nintendo...bronxxbombers
Halo brought FPS to the mass market. MGS didnt really bring anything to the mass market the way halo did. metal gear originally set, and consistently raises, the bar for cinematic story-telling, and essentially created the Stealth-Action genre. halo simplified the FPS and tuned it for simpler machines. this is not so respectable a feat as the aforementioned.

first, your post is messed up. secondly, Half-Life brought the FPS to the mass market. third, selling a lot of games has nothing to do with innovation or progression. i'll ask you this: What do you think of Wii Play? After all, it brought motion-controls to the mass market.

[QUOTE="thelastguy"]

Well everybody has an opinion, so we only use one source for scores

thelastguy

how is the journalist's opinion useful in an argument? let's say you're arguing about a new album. you like it, your friend doesn't. you both read Esquire. Esquire hates the album. now your friend thinks he's got a better argument because Chuck Klosterman agrees with him. is this not assinine?

That is a different situation, are you on Esquires site arguing?

This is GameSpot, so we use GS scores. If we could use every site to determine if a game flopped or not, we would never get anywhere

you don't have to use any site. using sites to determine a games quality is why people are constantly **** about games they've never played.

[QUOTE="bronxxbombers"][QUOTE="captain_diego"]unlike Halo, MGS is incredibly influential in the gaming world. that alone should give it an excuse to be milked. if not for the fact that Kojima is incredibly passionate and meticulous about his games. -GeordiLaForge-
And Halo wasnt? It brought console FPSs to the mass market. FPSs are the center of the mainstream gaming world. Halo CE was hugely important.

Halo was definitely much more influential. There was a time when every house or apartment that I went to had a Halo multiplayer game in progress. So essentially if it's MGS that's "milked" it's OK. But it's not OK when it's Halo. Is that about right?

i like mgs. halo sucks. i'm biased. hid it poorly. now finish me. FINISH ME!
