[QUOTE="catbuffalo"]I remember a time around when i was 5 or 6 at a MLB game (reds) with my dad. While everyone stood up during the anthem my dad stayed seated. This nearly pissed off everyone around us. We heard things like "If you hate this country so much then leave!", and the ever eloquent "**** YOU!!!!!" What i didn't understand was that if this country advocates freedom then why should we all stand for something so frivolous as a song? Did you where your flag pin today? **** me sideways!The_Mac_Daddy
The freedom in this country allows you to make a choice to sit during the pledge. You don't have to stand if you don't want to. But it would be respectful to stand during the pledge for the 30 seconds it takes to show respect to the country that grants you those freedoms and privilages. People take it for granted.
I understand that but not everyone in this country is or was free. Look at the japanese during ww2. Black people?
Did you know there are also some people in this country who plant seeds in the ground, harvest the plants, ingest the fruit and can be arrested for it?
Sometimes people should exercise their right to protest when their country screws up. No person, let alone nation is perfect. I just think that the patriotic bandwagon leads down a shady path sometimes, that's all. It's best to be aware of it and acknowledge it.
