I have had my PS3 since feb. of 07. I leave it on 24/7, if im not gaming in folding@Home. No problems here. I think of it like a computer, I don't turn it off.BoD_GOA_French

Thats because it IS essentially a computer.....especially since you can install another O/S on it.

First make sure your on the correct HDMI channel on your television. try holding down the power button on your ps3 again till you hear the 3 beeps when you turn it on. If the picture doesnt come up, hold the power button on the ps3 to turn it off till the lights turn off and repeat the process one more time. I've switched between composite and HDMI many times with my ps3 and it always resets the AV settings when i do it.

This is why I love HDMI. My ps3 was set up automatically when i turned it on....with a few tweaks here and there. I can only suggest that you do the hold down the power button and wait for the three beeps as well as make sure you have the cables plugged into the input and not outputs on your television. Not sure which you plugged them into cause you said both of them. Also since you know the input 1 works with your reciever you could try unpluging the ss cables and plug the ps3 into that input. Just a thought.

By the way, not to knit pick or anything but component is the red-blue-green, composite is red-white-yellow. Just to clarify.

If you cant find the HDMI slot on the ps3 then you got some bigger problems. Heres how they are with the ps3 horizontal looking from the back.

Power connector=========================Ethernet---------HDMI--------Optical--------component/composite......the end.

The difference between component and HDMI is negligable as they both output in hd signals unless of course your using a 1080p or higher resolution tv/ monitor....whatever. Since you've upgraded from composite to HDMI you should see a substancial difference in the quality enough to possibly pee your pants. Being as your tv is 50" and a resolution of 720p i'm going to assume you ARE in fact using a plasma because most lcd tv's at 50" would be at 1080p but thats just an assumption. Hope this helped you, unless you've already figured it out, then i'm just rambling on about nothing.

I have the exact same problem. SOCOM Confrontation update is 500+ MB and it has taken over two hours so far and it's now at 75%. I cant play little big planet cause the lag makes the characters float uncontrollably all over the screen. Movie downloads are so slow I'd rather spend thirty dollars on a bluray disc instead of rent them for five bucks on psn. I've done speed tests on my network and it runs at d/l speeds of over 10 mbps. Xbox has no issues with speed unless it is peak time but psn is always slow no matter what time it is. I'm amazed that Playstation Home even runs. I feel your pain!!!!
