Just thought I would share my experience here.
About a month and a half back, I experienced freezing going on during game play. After about five minutes of gameplay, the screen would lock up and have funky colours all over. Turning the machine off and on again would solve the problem, however it always came back. At one point it gave me the RROD, and I shut it off and left it. The freezing continued, but the RROD never came back. I eventually decided to have it repaired through the Best Buy Service plan. They had it back to me within a week of me bringing it to the store.
HOWEVER, it RROD'ed again about a week later. This time I went through Microsoft. I would have to say the longest part of the whole ordeal was getting the prepaid box shipped to me. That took about a week, although it was partially due to Purolator not bothering to tell me they didn't have my apartment buzzer number. Once I got the box, it was approximately 6 days between shipping it out and getting it back. MS sent me e-mail updates letting me know what was going on, and in the end I got a different refurbished XBOX than the one I sent away. I ended up with a Falcon instead of the previous model (not quite sure what it was called...) and so far everything seems fine.
Essentially, I was pretty happy with the speed of the process on the part of MS, and if this XBOX lasts, then I will be completely satisfied.
