[QUOTE="Trmpt"]

I keep hearing about how PSN is catching up to Xbox LIVE in terms of features and it is.

It is getting features that Xbox LIVE has and is therefore catching up.

BUT...

It is only catching up in the amountof features LIVE has....not its 'easiness' of using those same features.

How does PSN implement the features that they just gained from Xbox LIVE?

Can it use the party system without having to jump through unnecessary hoops?

Can you send a message to EVERYONE on your friends list AND recent players list at the same time?

--------

Xbox LIVE still has something that PSN does not...EOU.

Until the PlayStation Network implements 'ease of use' into their service Xbox LIVE will remain superior.

--------

So when will PSN get Xbox LIVE's most important feature?

PrimusGears

well thats why uncharted 2 has only 9000 players playing multiplayer, and Halo has 400.000 players playing multiplayer.

what? only 9000 players online for uncharted 2? im thinking about getting it and i know its mainly a story game but they cant even rack up 10k people online? comon ppl get online and play that. the story is incredible. but you are right, i do infact enjoy xbl features and ease of use over psn.

you give far too much credit to forums my friend. i know people that work for game sites, and people that work in the industry... whether you want to believe me or not i do not care -- but you should take me at my word when i say forum users on general sites are not a consideration, especially on sites like this. if you use a forum for a particular game you may be listened to or noted, but please.. don't delude yourself by thinking that anyone looks at SW or GS forums and thinks 'oh my, we should pay attention to what they're saying'.. if anything, SW is a place that is derided and mocked by the industry... not looked upon as some bastion of knowledge and insight.

neogaf is a far cry from SW, and even then - i'd put my money square on active PR protocol rather than some genuine comment from the developers. people are payed 6+ digit salaries in the game industry to maintain public image, and this is largely done through illusion of connection - no actual connection or real feedback...

either way, believe what you like.. i just think you're being a bit unrealistic ;)

3picuri3

Thats all nice and dandy, but users on SW probably don't only go on SW. I'm not being unrealistic at all, you've given no evidence other than the people that you know don't care about their readers :| Which is hardly the case, the reason games improve etc and this is really funny seeing as were talking forza in this thread is cause of the community. turn 10 has given much credit to the community on the improvements on forza 3. your underestimating the impact of forums drastically, this is the digital age, and a consumer market.

keep thinking what you want.. i'm just trying to bring some level-headed insight into the conversation. if you want to feel like you're part of a 'community' that turn 10 looks to and tracks, by all means - feel free to do so. just don't expect to see me by your side believing that. i don't underestimate anything when it comes to forums and the 'community'. i just have a different (and more informed) perspective because of my job, and the people I know. you overextend the definition of community and fall for basic PR talk far too easily... but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just means someone at t10 is earning their money. believe what you like. i'm not going to stop you ;) GS, and by extension SW (and especially SW) which you were talking about originally - do not belong to any community that has any affiliation of impact on turn 10 or any developer i could conceive of.... if you want to believe otherwise, go nuts. and a community rep giving kudos to a poster on neogaf is nothing more or less than what it is -- a community rep doing their job. or a PR / MR rep, doing their job. the only people making any serious impact on the development of any game are closed beta participants and internal community members and perhaps, PERHAPS, a smattering of outside feedback.

your exactly right! i love forza 3 and the score it got but do you honestly think that turn 10 gives a crap about the "community" here on this forum. when they say we tailored to the community and what fans like they just mean a generalization. they also do that because it sounds amazing in interviews when people say "i listened to what the fans say/said and we capatalized and delivered on stuff they wanted". its all crap, they may have made quick surveys and targeted a few things but definitely not in great detail as to come to GS and go to SW.

What those videos do not show is the stuff going on behind the scenes to set up the game session. On the Xbox Live side, the developers are using XBL APIs to enumerate game sessions and select one based on opponent skill, location, language, gamerzone, prefer/avoid settings, connection quality and a host of other factors, to help ensure you get the best game session available. All of that stuff is built in to Xbox Live and available to every game on the service, no matter if it's a huge AAA game or a tiny indie project. That "connection quality" thing on CoD4? That's an Xbox Live thing; Xbox Live reports the connection quality of all peers to the game and updates it on a real-time basis. Same thing with the global player-count. Since it's Xbox Live powering these features across all games, it means every XBL game provides a consistent, high-quality matchmaking experience.

With PSN, the developers are responsible for implementing all of that by themselves, or finding a third-party middleware solution for their game. The solutions vary between games, resulting in an experience that may not be as consistent or as high-quality as XBL, especially for lower-budget or indie titles. Even looking at CoD4 on PSN as depicted in the second video, it doesn't show the global player count and it doesn't measure connection quality; these are features that are built in to XBL so that's why the Xbox 360 version of the game has them whereas the PS3 version doesn't. Likewise with the "Download New Maps" menu item; 360 games can poll Xbox Live Game Marketplace to find out if there are new pieces of content, and if it finds some, it can flash the "Download New Maps" button. I don't know if they can do the same thing on PSN, but it appears not. Again, an example of how XBL makes things more convenient for developers (which in turn makes the experience better for gamers.)

That's why XBL is worth ~$50/yr. Of course, it's hard to explain to people that they're paying for the continued development of and infrastructure support for the XBL service, when the only difference they see between it and the competitor is voice/party chat. But that's Microsoft's problem, not mine.

perfect response. and on that note........ /thread.

for me, i believe that odst was well worth the 69.99 price tag (canada). i am a HUGE fan of halo and the franchise itself so that was one reason to get it. i also was going to purchase all the maps via dlc on the marketplace, but, when i heard about odst coming with EVERY SINGLE halo 3 map plus 3 NEW MAPS i decided to wait and get it as a package with the new game. i purchased the game at bestbuy (again, im in canada) and i also got halo: combat evolved absolutely free!!!! the entire game not a download code. so that right there is completely worth the price tag of odst. i ABSOLUTELY love the story, its incredible and now i get to play combat evolved as soon as im done with odst. overall, i think the purchase was PERFECT for me.

i honestly dont think so at all. i think that odst is a lot harder than halo 3 because of the health regeneration (there is none). its really hard to keep fighting and then going for cover because ur about to die and your health wont regenerate unless you find a health pack. i actually like the story of odst a little better with the flashback scenes and everything (wont give too much away). overall their both great games.

ya it should pop up in the menu when they release it. they just showed the little card with "halo reach" on it to showcase that it is coming.
