Hi everyone
In today's blog I'm going to be talking about a few different things, but first of all I'd like to talk about split-screen multi-player in video games.
Back in the PS2 days, I would spend ages playing split-screen Medal of Honor, and loads of driving games with a friend. The beauty of split-screen was that even the worst games, which cost about a £1, were made brilliant as we could laugh at it together, and play through it together. Then, after we'd completed it, back it went to the shop and we got another one out, completed it, brought it back. God, that was brilliant. How I wish I could do that now.
I was looking at my catalogue of Xbox 360 games earlier, and could only find one or two that had split-screen multi-player. Why is there no split-screen in DiRT 2? Or DiRT 1, for that matter? Those games would be up there with the very best if only they'd put in split-screen.
I was going to tell you one game which I think has amazing multi-player with a friend. Halo 3. I H-A-T-E the online multi-player when I play on my own, mainly because I suck at it. No idea why, seeing as I'm decent at the Call of Duty games, but there you go. But when I have a friend round, we'll play for ages in Forge mode, and Custom Games. And if someone on my Friend's List wants a game we can both play at the same time so no-one's left out! Woo!
And the game in my collection I think has the most room for improvement in multi-player? Call of Duty 4. Yes, Call of Duty 4. Not the normal multi-player, Team Deathmatch, SND, FFA etc, but the rest (although they could be improved). For starters, there's absolutely no co-op campaign. WHY? Imagine doing Mile High Club in co-op. Or the AC-130 gunship mission. One man on each gun. Everything in that game would be so much better if it was in co-op. Sure, you can play 1vs1, but, er, the maps are too big and Shipment is the worst map in history.
Halo 3 is so perfectly designed it's amazing. If Call of Duty just took a leaf out of Halo's book then it would have, quite simply, the perfect multi-player.
Secondly, I wanted to talk about what games I'll be buying. At the minute, I'm trying to upload some videos to YouTube, which unfortunately needs some decent equipment (upwards of £200) like a microphone and HD capture card. My username on YouTube is TopGearGaming2010 by the way for anyone who wants to check my video (just one at the minute) out and support me. I'm also looking to buy a headset for about £40 and the Band Hero instrument bundle. Expensive. And all of that means that unfortunately I won't be able to buy too many 360 games, so I decided to turn back and get a GBA SP (to replace my current GBA, which is the original) as well as a new controller for my PS2 to replace the one that I made a dent in one of the analogue sticks with my fingernail (playing FIFA with a friend, God that was annoying). All of which means more expense, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end. Check out my wishlist for all the PS2, Xbox games I'm gonna get, and I'll try and upload some more reviews!
To finish, I'm just going to say something about Halo 3: ODST which I picked up for £35 from Tesco. A bit expensive, but I think it was damn worth it. The campaign is brilliant (although I've only played 2 missions) and the atmosphere is brilliant. Sometimes stealth is the way to go, if there's a group of brutes. The health packs are just annoying though. There's always enough around, but when the game reloads sometimes you'll have very low health and you'll die lots of times as you try to hunt some down. But onto Firefight. This is BRILLIANT, and the best co-op experience I have ever played. Every game is different, with different skulls, maps, characters, and every game me and my mate try to keep a different base. We get a vehicle (like a Warthog) and get one in the back on the turret, and one driving. Whenever a new Warthog spawns, we leave our base temporarily and get there with one guy driving, one on the turret then drive both of them back to the base. The weapons drop is also very useful. Pistols are actually quite useful. One headshot to take down a grunt, and then when a Chieftain comes along we kill him, and move the gravity hammer into our base. At the end of the round we hold it so it doesn't disappear. This method is so effective. The second disc, which comes packed with every Halo 3 map from all the map packs and the original disc is great, and Custom Games, Forge mode, and Theater are all present and correct. A definite must-buy in my opinion.
I'll see you guys later!
