@snarf24: Shenmue was about immersion in a place and time. The gameplay was never meant to be twitch or front and center. It's not for everyone, but anyone with a passing interest in Rural 1980s Japan (S1) or 1980s China should check it out.
finally rented and played through campaign. I love WWII-themed sh1t. The campaign has no soul. Maybe it's because it was developed by millennials who didn't have grandfathers to relay the stories firsthand, but this game is like any other call of duty, only they skinned everything in era-models and textures (some of the more boring ones at that). I'd take old school CoD 1 and 2 over this garbage every day and twice again on Sunday. WWII offers nothing if not spectacular opportunities for set-piece engagement. Even the Normandy scene was weak as hell, with what felt like a 2 foot beach.
Why do video game makers feel the need to answer questions like they're fukkin politicians?
"putting more control in their hands and providing more options and choice in the way people play. There's not much in the game that we wouldn't revisit to improve the game for as many players as possible."
Translation: We messed up with the loot crates, but we're still going to do everything we can to try to get you to shell out exorbitant sums for a weapon or skin that should just be included in the game at retail price... We're just gonna' do it a little differently.
@gotrekfabian: They were ok. I remember reading them when I was younger. There was a fair amount of "meh" in them and as a standalone movie, maybe could've been cool. As a trilogy, I dunno.
