[QUOTE="nish2280"]i would say go Dual SLi with another 8800GT and OC until u hit the sweet spot and that should increase ur performance to (dare i say it) a 9800gtx which should be good enogh for nowdarkmagician06

my motherboard has only one PCIe x16 slot, so i cant SLI without buying a new motherboard (and power supply). i'll have to buy a new power supply nonetheless though

what kind do you have now

Motherboard: Gigabyte P35
Power Supply: Corsair 450w

is there any way i can use the task scheduler on vista to tell it to delete a folder every week? i use firefox, and have all my downloads set to one folder, and that folder can get especially big because for some reason my firefox wont let me just open and run .exe's, i have to save them.

anyways, i'm looking at the task scheduler right now, and the only three options for 'Actions' tab are Start a program, Send an e-mail, and Display a message.

i know that 'delete' or 'clear folder' isnt in there, so i probably cant do what i'm trying to do, but i just wanted to make sure that there isnt any other way i could have this work.

thanks in advance.

hey guys, about 3 and a half years ago, i upgraded to the best graphics card out there at the time, the 6800 ultra. that got me decent performance in games untill the last year or so. i upgraded this past december to an 8800GT, mainly because of the low price.

the thing is, i dont expect to get great performance out of this card for two years. i'm guessing maybe one year. i guess you could call this card i have now a place-holder untill i make a large upgrade. what i'm asking is, what card will be the next card that will get me good performance in games for 2 years?

well guys, it looks like i'll have to RMA it.

i took the side of my case off AND turned the fan speeds for my gpu up to 100% (they were previously on 50%), and while it did lower the temperature a little bit, it still bounced around from 92-98 C. the temp for my cpu also only went down about 4 degrees celcius, so that tells me its definately not an airflow problem.

sigh. could anyone give me a rough process of how to RMA something like this? i've never done it before. also, how long can RMA'ing a card take?

I have a XFX 8800GT EE and Ive heard that some 8800GT XXX's run to hot one way to fix it is to lower the Clock speeds to 640/1625/950(~1900) and if your temps dont lower try 600/1600/900 (~1800) which is standard clock speeds. And If your temps dont get lower like below 85C in gaming then see if its a air flow problem with your case. Take off the side cover and see what happens and if it gets better then you know what your problem is. If not just RMA it if you can.04dcarraher

ok well its not my clock speeds that are causing the extreme heat. i didnt even try the first set you told me to, i went straight down to the default speeds (~600/1600/900). after playing stalker for about 30 mins, the speeds got up to 108 C. thats not a typo, they were that high.

upon noticing, i immediately closed the game and came here to tell you of my results. after exiting the game, the temperatures have been going down really slowly. its taken about 10mins to get down to 66 C. its never really been like that.

so what are my options that are left? i'll try taking off the side of my case next. if that doesnt work, i'll have to RMA the card?

[QUOTE="chronogamer27"]

hey guys, i've been getting artifacts recently after gaming for about 4-5 hours straight. i noticed soem wierd sounds with my fans while playing medal of honor airborne today, it seemed like the fan speed was bouncing from 40% to 100% and back every second or so.

i have an 8800GT, and the fan speed is turned up defaultly to 50% with rivatuner. after i heard the sounds, i put up the temp monitor from rivatuner. it said that my core temperature for my gpu was 102 C. thats not good at all.

i bumped the fan speed all the way up to 100% and kept playing. after a while my temperatures got to about 98 C. with the fan speeds at 100%!!!

is something really wrong here? my idle temps for my gpu right now is 63 C, and for my q6600 the average temp is about 51 C. those arent necesarily very high are they?
